Class of 2028 & 2035

Miles had his back to school party for the upcoming 2nd graders, also known as the Class of 2028.

I will always remember how lonely we were at the first Back to School party right after we moved here. We didn't know anyone and it was a sad reminder that we had left a lot of very good friends in Martin.

It feels so good now to know people wherever we go...parties, the ballpark, church, Walmart...b/c where else would we see anyone out and about around here??

Miles had such a good time at the party. He swam hard for two hours and went down the slide a million times.

I made him stop here and there to get a few pictures with some good friends. He and Mason see each other every day at the school's summer care program, so they actually didn't play together much. He told me on the way home that they don't always play together, but that doesn't mean they aren't friends.

I made him take a picture with his 1st grade crush, Annalise, and he just about died.

I joke with him about her being a crush, but really they were great friends last year. They got along so well. They always picked each other for partners to do school work. I think they were glad to see each other tonight.

And just like that, he's ready for 2nd grade.Teachers haven't officially been communicated, but I know who we have if nothing changes and I'm hearing such good things. They say that she is strict but so much fun. Just.What.We.Need. Fingers crossed that it won't change.

Carson stayed with Stephanie for a little while until Darrin could pick him up. I think she got some good loving. He really is the sweetest.

I kid you not about this next statement...I got added to the Medina Hornets Class of 2035 Facebook page yesterday. I'll pause while you take that in. They are coordinating an annual picture of all the babies and we will continue until 2035. When I added it up to confirm that he will graduate in 2035, I also discovered that I will be 59. Y'all, I can't. Only time will tell if he will play basketball or football for the Hornets.

Weekend Update

Just a quick update b/c I started working out at 5am two weeks ago and I'm still going! I actually found something that I like. It helps that I have friends there. I try to get in bed by 10pm on the nights before I work out. I think it makes a big difference.

Miles had a field trip on Friday to a local pizza place that has a few arcade games.

Carson rocked some Mickey Mouse and a faux hawk for daycare on Friday. I think he's stealing their hearts at already :)

Looking up to Daddy...

He decided that he hates broccoli in this moment. It was fine a minute earlier, but not anymore apparently. He likes all foods, but not all foods every day. I guess he already knows what he's in the mood for.

Miles had another party today for a baseball teammate who also happens to be Myles. My Miles would like to legally change his name to spell it with a "y". Sorry buddy.

Carson did a little standing on his own this weekend. The picture is super blurry, but it's the best I could get. He was up and down much faster than my phone wanted to take a picture.

Just watching some Saturday cartoons like a big boy. Clearly we are outgrowing 12 months...

Carson and I went swimming on Saturday afternoon. His new ear plugs worked like a charm. They don't bother him at all either.

He loved swimming. I put him on the side of the pool and he fell over for me to catch him a million times. He loved it. He even loved going under and splashing his face in the water. We only lasted about an hour, but it was fun. He kept trying to drink the water and so we called it quits. I just couldn't live with that.

He's been kind of fussy off and on all weekend. Last night, he was up and down a few times before he finally went down for the night. That's very unusual for him. My theories are teething, shots from Wednesday, or he's hungry. He eats a lot, but I think he might need to eat a little more often. Before bed tonight, I gave him a big snack of carrots, green beans, mashed potatoes, and applesauce, and then topped it off with a dose of Motrin and a bottle of almond milk. He went to sleep without a peep and I think he's down for the night.

He had his first accident tonight. He pulled a small lamp off of a dresser and onto himself. He has a bump above his eye and a little busted blood vessel below. He cried for about 30 seconds. I actually thinks it looks worse in the picture, but it might look pitiful tomorrow.

My mom came for a quick visit and Darrin had camp for half the weekend. I also threw in a consignment sale, grocery shopping, and food prep for the week. It's been a busy one, but I guess we are ready for the week ahead!

Check Ups & Bad Planning

Carson and I started our day at the ENT for a follow up to his tube surgery. It was a quick visit and everything looked great. We decided to get some ear plugs molded b/c cotton balls with Vaseline have proven to be a pain. Plus, it isn't enough for swimming. I'm hopeful that the new ear plugs will be a nice change for bath time.

After the ENT, we headed to Dr. Amy for his 12 month check up. We were early, so we had the waiting room to ourselves. I actually listened to some of a conference call for work while we waited.

Carson weighs 23lbs (75th percentile) and is 29 inches long (25th percentile). His head circumference is in the 50th percentile, so all in all, it looks like our preemie has caught up!

He liked playing with Dr. Amy's stool while we waited.

The only concern I had for our visit was his skin. It's been getting dryer and dryer. After every bath, the dry patches get red. I assumed it was eczema, but I wasn't sure. Dr. Amy said it was indeed eczema. She said to use Cetaphil soap and Aquaphor lotion. I went right after the appointment bought some. It doesn't seem to bother him, but I want my baby's smooth skin back.

We ended the visit with a finger prick and three vaccinations. Have I said before how much I dislike them??? He handled them well and only cried for a minute.

After the appointment, I took him to daycare. I was at work about 30 minutes when his teacher text to ask if I had given him Tylenol b/c he was crying nonstop and screaming at times. I told her that I had not and that I would come get him. She told me I didn't have to, but I didn't want him to be uncomfortable. I should have known better b/c he tends to take shots pretty hard. He usually runs fever and even gets a runny nose. I thought he might be able to get through the afternoon before he started feeling badly. From now on, I will schedule shot visits in the afternoon so we can just go home afterwards. He's been in his crib since we got home and I've been on two conference calls. It took him a while to fall asleep but he played quietly and seemed to be cozy in his crib. Hopefully it's just what he needed.

Carson Had a Great Day & Other Random Thoughts

Darrin was out of town last night, so I had to do the 50 minute kid drop off by myself again. It sounds worse than it is, but it's still an adjustment. When I dropped Miles off, his friend, Mason, came over to see Carson. Several of Miles' friends have taken an interest in Carson. I think it's b/c of how much Miles talks about him. We found out tonight that the boys are not in the same class next year. The boys and mommas are mourning a little.

Carson's teacher doesn't get there until 7:30am so I was sure to drop off after that time. I quizzed her a little about yesterday. I threw in that he was very tired and hungry last night. I didn't really think it was unusual, but I think Carson eats more than most babies and I just wanted to be sure that she knew that. Miles was the same way. Today, he was happy and content all afternoon and evening. I think he's already adjusting and maybe they fed him a little more. Another teacher made the comment that he is so happy and said, "that smile will get you". I was glad to hear that b/c that's exactly how he is. Glad he's content there and that they are seeing it.

Now, for a few random pics. Miles went to a swim party the other night. He was the only one that didn't get out for cake and ice cream. Darrin and I don't know what to make of this.

He finally got out and at a few bites. He just doesn't like to stop long enough to eat. After every get-together, party, family function, etc, he immediately gets in the car and says that he's hungry, including Thanksgiving.

Carson is finally getting used to the car seat in my car. For the first month or so, he cried every time he saw it. We have no idea why. The only theory is that it sits more upright than what he's used to, and the new seat in Darrin's car.

He loves the dishwasher. I don't know.

Thanks to his baseball coach, Miles has become a Cubs' fan. Stephanie hooked him up with an early birthday present yesterday and he was all about wearing it today. We are Cardinals fans. It's a little sad when your kids don't cheer for the same teams as you.

That's all for now. Early morning workout tomorrow, so off to bed I go. Carson has an ENT follow tomorrow and his 1 year check up. Hopefully I'll be back tomorrow night to talk about how big and healthy he is!

Day One

The first day of Carson's new daycare is in the books. He was perfectly fine when I dropped him off. He was playing with all the new toys as I was unloading all of his supplies. Then I decided to go back to the car and get my phone so I could take a picture with his teacher, Ms. Martha. The second time I left, he wasn't having it. I knew he would be fine as soon as I got out of sight, so I apologized to Ms. Martha for causing the drama and quickly escaped.

It seems that he recovered nicely.

Darrin couldn't help with the boys today due to his schedule, so I dropped off in two different towns and then made my way to work in yet another town. The whole process takes around 50-55 minutes. Life will be a little crazy until Miles' school moves to our side of town next fall. Until then, we will just have to deal. It's worth it b/c both boys are in the school/daycare that we want them to be in.

I think Carson's first day went well although I didn't get any kind of note saying how his day was. They had a fire drill and Carson's room was full for the first time. I think there was another new kid in his class also. I think it was just a crazy day. Hopefully I will get the scoop when I drop him off tomorrow. He was starving and exhausted when I picked him up. He ate two helpings of spaghetti, a garlic cheese biscuit, and a big serving of applesauce. I couldn't feed him fast enough. Then, he cried and cried until I gave him a bottle at 6:45pm and put him to bed for the night. I don't think he's moved. Must have been a big first day!

Weekend Wrap Up

My computer has been acting up for the last week, which is making it very difficult to blog. It's old and I'm afraid we won't be able to put off buying a new one for much longer. This post is complete randomness from the weekend and a few from last week, but I better get it up while I can.

Friday night called for walking tacos...taco meat in bags of crushed up chips. Also, Miles has learned to play Solitare which is fantastic. I wonder how long he will be entertained playing a card game by himself???

This cutie has been sporting a faux hawk lately. Daddy started it and I continued it b/c I think it's adorable.

He's also getting around better. Walking may not be as far off as I thought.

Miles insisted on wearing a hoodie to school on Friday even though the heat index was in the 100s. I thought maybe it was cold at school. He tends to be cold natured like me. When he dresses himself to work in the yard with Darrin, he will always put on pants and a long sleeved shirt. When I pulled in the driveway on Friday afternoon, he was practicing baseball in said hoodie. I'm not sure he took it off all day.

Just playing in the shower while mom gets ready for work...

While I was out of town last week, Darrin took the boys to the movies. While mom is away the boys will watch a PG-13 movie. Darrin said that they were the only ones in the theater which was good b/c he had to pace with Carson. He said if anyone else had been in there they would have had to leave.

PJs early on Friday night and everyone was happy about it.

Saturday morning TV watching...

Stephanie and I took Miles and her nephew, Hunt, to the local city pool today. Not too shabby. I think the boys had fun. We will definitely be doing this again.

Carson starts his new daycare tomorrow. He will be taking a nap on a nap mat. Should be an interesting transition for him. I asked my mom to make a nap mat cover for him. She made this cozy blue cover for him. And, in true grandma fashion she also made him a back up. That's what grandmas are for. He crawled back and forth on it about 10x when I showed it to him.

Off to bed I go! Hopefully the computer will cooperate and I can post Carson's birthday pictures very soon.
