A Soggy Easter

I'm just now getting around to posting some pics....although there isn't much to post. This is the first year Miles got an Easter basket. He got some pjs, a DVD, a chocolate bunny, colored bubbles, sidewalk chalk, Handy Manny stickers and some Peeps.

I had high hopes for a beautiful Easter day since it fell so late this year. We had a great service at church....and while the day was beautiful...but the weather wasn't. This is what it looked like on our drive to Darrin's sister's house for Easter lunch with the family...

I wanted to get some pretty pictures outside of the three of us but it just didn't happen. Instead, here is Miles after hunting for Easter eggs. This is not his Easter outfit...it was a mess after lunch and had to be changed...

Regardless, the meaning of Easter isn't new outfits and pretty pictures, so again...the day was beautiful.

Rain, Rain Go Away

Oh the rain...it's never ending. This is the craziest weather I can remember in a long time. Last night they were predicting record breaking storms in west Tennessee. So, my hubby decided we needed to spend the night in the volleyball locker room. The locker room is kind of low lying and the walls are made of cinder block. It's a really safe place if you are into sleeping in locker rooms. Before Miles, we probably would have slept through the storm at home, but he changes things of course.

So we loaded up, including Mack, and headed to the locker room...

I don't understand?? Why are we here?

Our party grew to 2 adults, 1 baby, 1 dog, and 5 volleyball players...

The girls slept in the actual locker room. We slept on an air mattress in Darrin's office. It was dreadful, but at least we were safe. Sleeping on an air mattress with a little wiggle worm and a hubby that is twice your size is no fun at all. When Darrin laid down all the air redistributed to my side...you can imagine.

I was reminded why we have worked so hard to ensure that Miles does not sleep with us. He crawled all over me all. night. long. His usual bed time is between 7:30 and 8pm. When we finally turned out the lights at 10:30ish, he was sitting on top of me barking like a dog.

Thankfully the storms weren't as bad, in our area, as they predicted. I'm thankful that we had a safe place to go, and a husband/father that cared enough to keep us safe. With that said, I hope we don't have to repeat last night for a very long time.

Bye Bye Veggie Tales, Hello Barney

This has become Miles' new favorite spot....on his bean bag, with my favorite pink blanket. This morning it was almost time to leave for church and Darrin & I needed a few minutes to finish getting ready. So, I put a Veggie Tales video on that Miles got for Easter and cozied him up on his bean bag. When I left him, he was sitting just like this watching Veggie Tales.

About ten minutes later, Darrin commented to me that he thought I had played the Veggie Tales DVD for him....to which I replied that I had. Apparently Miles decided that he'd rather watch Barney. So, he somehow took out the Veggie Tales DVD...put in Barney...and pushed play. We found him standing in front of the TV watching Barney. The Veggie Tales DVD remains to be found. I guess he didn't like it.

Catch Up

As I've said before, when the blogging slacks off there is a good chance that Darrin is out of town. He left for a golf trip last Sunday and was gone until Friday. It was a busy week while he was gone. Warning: tons of pictures ahead....as I attempt to catch up. The first event was Miles' Easter party at school.

Eating a snack with his friends...and very happy that Mommy is there. He didn't take his eyes off me much during the party.

The rest of the kids in his class...

Hunting Easter eggs for the first time...it didn't take him long to figure out the objective...

Miles and his friend, Amelia...

We were all amazed at how he was carrying this many eggs at once. Still not sure how he managed it. Check out his friend, Ruby Claire in the background. She is in the purple sweater and that is Miles' basket. He was completely oblivious.....so funny. All I could think was, that was less sugar going home to our house.

Dying eggs with Ms. Debra....the eggs had their names on them. Somehow we made it home with an egg that said "Aiden".

Miles and Ms. Pilar...

Here we have another candy thief, Alli, that is not quite as sly, but just as effective b/c Miles didn't care.

My mom stayed with us part of the week, which made Miles very happy...

Miles loves my mom so much...

We made a Welcome Home banner for Daddy...

Miles loves to "dolor" (color). He's still using d's in place of c's.

Today we had an Easter egg hunt at our church. Miles started slowing down about here, when he noticed the Easter bunny greeting everyone at the front door....not a fan. It took a while to actually get inside. We eventually had to walk as far away from the bunny as we could. He didn't cry or anything....just a little paralyzed with fear.

High five for all the eggs he found...

He's straining to see the "bunny" here, but when asked if he wanted to go see him, he clearly answered "no".

He loved going down the inflatable slide with his cousins. Here he is with Paige...

Time to call it a day...

Marmee's Little Helper

My mom is here to visit, which Miles loves. He is her little shadow every time she comes to see us. He loves to have her undivided attention. Today when I got home from work, this is what they were doing...

Snapping green beans. She snaps the ends off and he breaks them in half.

Then they washed them...

Quite a team. Unfortunately Miles was too impatient to wait for them to cook. Right after this he began the "after daycare, I'm hungry, must have food right now, meltdown". So I did what I typically do, warm up last night's leftovers and he eats before us. I would much rather eat together as a family, but he's just not there yet. And, there's no such thing as a snack to hold him over until dinner. Once the food starts, it's on. In the event that I am able to just give him something little, it completely ruins his appetite. Pretty soon he'll need to learn patience to wait for dinner, but not yet.

Filling Daddy's Shoes

Miles likes to shut doors. He walks around the house shutting doors. Often times he will shut the door to his room behind us when we go in to change his diaper or change his clothes. He also likes to go in our closet and shut the door. Yesterday he was in there for a while without making a sound. When Darrin opened the door....b/c we have to rescue him since he still can't open doors...this is what he found....

As you can tell, he thought it was hilarious...

We found it equally funny. He keeps us laughing.

Handsome

Miles got his hair cut this morning. Stephanie, at Styles on Broadway, did such a good job. She has a 3 year old boy so she was perfect with Miles. He still has a few curls in the back, but overall it's shorter and much tamer. I think he knows that he looks cute...

I purposely scheduled the appointment for 9am on Saturday b/c I thought that would work best with his routine. It was perfect timing. He was great. Couldn't have asked for him to be any better.

Stephanie promised him a treat when she was finished. I thought this was his first lollipop, but he knew exactly what do with it so apparently not. He liked holding it more than actually licking it. He was so proud to have it.

Yep, that's our kid. Adorable.

Bath Time

My mom came up last weekend for a visit. I text her during the day to see how she and Miles were doing. Her reply..."We went to Walmart & I bought M a Thomas the Train toothbrush, so he's very happy". He also scored some yummy smelling shampoo, hair tamer (much needed), toothpaste and Elmo bath color that you can mix to make different colors. Tonight's color was purple...

The Rodeo

This weekend, UTM is hosting the annual rodeo. Even if you know nothing about rodeos (that would be us), it is still fun. Plus, our child loves horses so we had to go.

Bucking broncos were first. We were on the third row, so after the cowboy would fall off, the horse would walk right by us. He liked this part a lot.

I'm not sure if he was mesmerized by the horses or tired. It was kind of tough to tell all night. His bedtime is 7:30pm and that's when the rodeo started. He even dozed off on our 10 minute drive there.

We tried to get him to pet the horse, Cornbread, but he wanted nothing to do with it. He prefers to admire from a distance. We pass by some horses on our drive to daycare every morning. I feel certain it is the highlight of his day. Maybe that is more his speed.

After a significant amount of this...

...we decided to leave. Instead of walking to bed, he literally ran. We made it until 8:45pm, which was longer than I anticipated. We had fun, and I trust that he did too.
