Since We Last Talked

Well....some of my reservations about vacation proved to be valid.  On my way to the concert on Saturday, Darrin called to let me know that his grandmother passed away.  I was the one driving and there wasn't anything we could do that night so I went on to the concert.  The first hour were spent making some tentative plans for the funeral & vacation via texts with Darrin, and then I made the most of the night.

We had a great time.  It was blazing hot until the sun went down, but we knew that when we bought our tickets for an outdoor concert in June, that started at 4:30pm.

Me, Steph, and Shara Lynn...

Me & Stephanie...

 Stephanie really LOVES Tim McGraw...

....and loves Faith & Tim even more...

 Kenny Chesney is my favorite...

He put on a great show.  I'd say it's the best concert I've ever been to...

Some time during the night I received a text from Darrin that said:  "Ur son just used a glue stick as chapstick....he's fine....just humorous.  He learned a valuable lesson....he's seriously fine I just wanted to tell you"

That was funny.  The next text, not so much.  Again from Darrin: "OMG. I've been fighting it off but I really think I'm get sick.  Stomach queasy and have bad cold chills."

Oh great.  So at this point, I'm rethinking my so thought Herx reaction earlier in the week and wondering if I had the flu.  The symptoms are exactly the same.  I got home from the concert at 2am to find Darrin asleep on one couch and Miles asleep on another couch.  Darrin was burning up, so I got him some meds and sent him to bed in the guest bedroom.  Then I got ready for bed and Miles & I slept in my mom's bed since she was still out of town.

Luckily Darrin felt better the next day.  He wasn't 100%, but he was ok.  We got ready for the day and loaded the car completely back up, so that when my mom got home we could leave Miles with her and head back for the funeral.  In the next couple of hours, we decided to stay in Nashville and drive Darrin's brother, who flew in from Florida, back with us.  So....unpack the car again.

My mom got home that afternoon.  At this point, Darrin's fever was back so he was sleeping and laying around.  My mom, Miles and I went outside to play in the yard with the water hose.  I got bit a few times by some bugs and started itching.....and then had an all out allergic reaction completely with red whelps randomly all over my body.  It's like the week that keeps on giving.  Lots of Benadryl and Calladryl, but I still woke up with it the next day.

To wrap this long post up, we left Miles with my mom on Monday morning...

....picked up Aaron at the airport, drove back to his parent's house to drop Aaron off, spent a few minutes with his mom, went to a walk in clinic where I got a steroid shot & 2 prescriptions to take away the mystery hives, unpacked our car at home, went to the visitation for his grandmother, went out to eat, and then back home to (watch the Bachelorette) sleep.  It has been a trying weekend for a compulsive planner.

Darrin and his cousins at the funeral home last night...
Heather is pregnant...I love this picture...so funny...

So, the plan is....we are packing the car this morning for the hundredth time and going to the funeral at 10am.  We are leaving directly from the cemetery to drive to Florida.  We will still have two full days on the beach and then on to New Orleans to celebrate Jason & Christy's wedding, which we are so excited to do.  Tropical storm Debbie has been in Destin until now anyway so maybe our arrival will be perfect timing.  Darrin feels better and my hives are gone, so let's do this.  Hopefully I won't be back for a week.  Have a good one!

It's Vacation Time

We leave today for a jam packed vacation.  First up we are driving to my mom's house to spend two nights.  I am going to the Kenny Chesney/Tim McGraw concert tonight with my friend, Stephanie, and her sister.

Tomorrow Darrin, Miles, and I will hang out at my mom's, and then Monday morning Darrin and I head to Destin for 4 nights.  We leave Destin on Friday to go to New Orleans where Darrin will be in a wedding on Saturday.  Sunday my mom is graciously going to drive Miles back to our house so we can just drive home without going through Nashville.  As I said, a jam packed vacation.

I am very much look forward to all of it, but have a few reservations.  Last Wednesday night I woke up in the middle of the night....very sick.  It was a terrible Herx reaction from upping my Lyme medicine, complete with a miserable headache, body aches, fever, and throwing up.  This was the worst, and longest lasting, Herx I have ever had.  I really thought I was going to loose it I felt so badly.  I could hardly even turn over in bed.  I missed work on Thursday and probably should have stayed home on Friday, but just couldn't afford to since I will be out all next week.  I feel much better today....here's hoping it lasts all the way through the concert.

Next, Darrin's grandmother is in the nursing home and not doing well.  She's been in the nursing home for a while now, and has had a few ups and downs with her health. She can't seem to turn the corner from where she is right now.  Darrin visited her yesterday, but it's obviously nerve racking leaving town while she is not doing well.

Next, Darrin and I will be leaving Miles for 6 nights, which we have never done.  He's staying with my mom, and I know he will be fine.  I worry about how much my heart will miss him.  I know it will be good for everyone, and trust me, I am really looking forward to spending time with Darrin, with our feet in the sand.  I will not be crying in the hotel room or anything, but I do know that it will be hard to be away from Miles for that long.

So there you have it...our whirlwind vacation.  With that said, when I return, things are going to have to change around here.  I think the pace I'm keeping lately is stopping the progress of my Lyme treatment.  My immune system is not building up, and in my opinion, it's b/c I run myself ragged.  And, I do it to myself.  So, I plan to do some thinking on vacation about ways to slow things down a bit.  I need to learn to say no more often.  I also need to learn to sit down on the couch instead of creating things to do around the house.  Lastly, when we have nothing to do on the weekend, I need to let it be instead of constantly planning things to do.  All of this will be much easier said than done, but it must happen.  Being so sick this week put things in perspective.  I couldn't get out of bed, much less play with Miles and enjoy my family.  It was a wake up call for sure.  In the meantime, I have a crazy week ahead, so I better get to it.  I'll be back in a week or so.  Hope everyone has a great week.

Random picture....Miles fell at daycare yesterday.  He said he was playing volleyball.

It's Magic

Getting Miles dressed has become a huge fight every morning and again at bedtime.  It usually involves us telling him that we are going to leave the room, and for him to bring his clothes to us when he's ready to get dressed.  One morning I decided to let him try to dress himself.  To my surprise, it worked.

Excuse the terrible picture quality.  I really need to work on taking better indoor pictures.  I bought a new photo editing tutorial, but haven't had time to learn it yet.  Plus I need to buy Photoshop.  I'm hoping the tutorial is as wonderful as it claims.  By all means, I need it.

So....I leave his clothes like this....

Several, and I do mean several, minutes later, he reappears like this...

It's like magic.  It doesn't always work.  This morning he walked out of his room in socks & shoes, and nothing else....not even underwear.  The whole process really serves two purposes.  Obviously he ends up dressed at the end, but it also entertains him without all the drama.  If we can accomplish one of the two, I'm happy.

The 19th Hole

For Father's Day, Miles got Darrin a golf flag stick and cup for the backyard.  Darrin of course let Miles open the gift...

Tonight they set it up...

Miles couldn't wait to put the flag in...

Our backyard is becoming a little play land and I love it.  We have a waterslide, swing set, mini sandbox, and now a golf hole.  Next up, a fire pit.

Happy Father's Day

I asked Miles why he loved his daddy and he said, "Because I do.  He cooks food. He takes me to the driving range. He plays soccer ball with me."  Sounds like a great daddy to me.  I love him b/c he makes breakfast for Miles every morning...he has a cool job that I love....he supports a lot of my crazy/obsessive ideas....he loves football....and he puts up with me.  Happy Father's Day to a great daddy!

Start Your Engines

Tonight, Miles helped Aiden celebrate his 3rd birthday.  Here's the birthday boy...

...and here's the track...

The kids had a blast.  Poor Miles took his little four wheeler, the one he calls a lawn mower, that he got for his first birthday.  After getting lapped a few times, he quickly ditched his toy and grabbed any available tractor, police car, Barbie car....it made no difference to him, as long as it wasn't his little putt putt...

This is Aiden's and it had a brand new, super fast battery.  It was a hit.  The thing could go...

There was also some pool time, which Miles loved...

On the way home from the party, I told Miles he had to take a bath when we got home.  In response, he told me that he was not happy right now and did not like my attitude.  I busted out laughing so I'm sure I'll hear that again since he knows I think it's hilarious.  Unfortunately for him, those little phrases are usually only funny the first time.

We had some friends over this morning to play on Miles' new slide so it's been a busy day.  We obviously don't know how to have a relaxing weekend.  Miles asked to go to bed tonight if that tells you at all how busy our day was.

Happy Birthday to Aiden!  All three of us had a great time at the party with our friends.
