Sick Baby

While I was out of town this week, Darrin text me to say that Carson had a pretty significant cough. We agreed that he might want to call the doctor. I thought they would just say that he had some congestion, but it's better to be safe than sorry. Sometimes I'm too laid back and lately that hasn't worked in my favor.

As a side note, he weighed 18lbs 8oz at the visit. She said that he had inflamed bronchials and a bad ear infection in his right ear, and that it was good we brought him in when we did b/c it appeared that we caught it early.

She gave him a steroid shot and a breathing treatment while he was there and sent him home with breathing treatments, antibiotics, and a steroid. I did not expect that! When I walked in the door last night from my trip, his fever was up to 103.3. It had just shot up. He was also a little shaky from the breathing treatments and his heart was beating out of his chest. It was unsettling. Darrin was gone for the night and Carson had been taken care of well by Darrin's mom, but had just gone downhill so fast.

I gave him some Motrin and a lukewarm bath. His fever came down quickly. He managed to get a little sleep and woke up fever free.

I stayed home with him today. He didn't run a fever all day. He was so fussy and cranky all day though. I don't know if he feels bad or if the medicine is making him irritable. It's so hard to know when they are little. He played like this for a total of an hour all morning. I spent the rest of the day trying to console him. Unfortunately, nothing made him happy.

He's had all his medicine and treatments and he's down for the night. Praying he wakes up much happier tomorrow.

Weekend Wrap Up

It's the end to my long weekend...and it's been a long one b/c Darrin has been out of town since Friday. He got home around 7:30pm and I now leave to go out of town tomorrow. My work trip may or may not feel like a vacation after a busy weekend. We had two baseball practices.

On Friday, a friend from work sent me a baby gift that she bought for Miles 7 years ago! She was cleaning out a closet and found it. It is a book called My Very Own Name. It is the most adorable book! It spells out his entire name, page by page, and a different animal brings every letter. Adorable!

It took him a while to catch on, but he finally figured out what they were spelling and he loved it.

Carson has been a little off and on all weekend. He seems to feel ok here, but he was just relaxed. When I would walk in the room he would pop his head up as if to say "I'm not tired!"

When he wakes up in the morning on the weekends, I put him in our bed. He patiently lays there until I decide to get up. Miles was not so patient when it was breakfast time.

On Saturday, I had some pictures taken of the boys. Carson was looking sharp.

He smiled so big for around 45 minutes and endured several outfit changes. Then, he was over it. Thankfully we were finished at that point. I can't wait to see them. Miles' pics at this age were some of my favorites.

He was super fussy when we got home. I tried everything to console him.

I finally put him in the bathtub, b/c that cures everything.

It helped while he was in there, but then went right back to crying afterwards. I think he was just tired from the day. I finally just fed him and put him to bed at 7:30pm. He slept until 6am!

We went to church and had small group. We also read books...

Miles rode his bike...

And we met some friends at the park...

Carson was so relaxed in the swing. I put Miles' sweatshirt in front of him and he just rested his body and face on it like a pillow.

Now, it's 10pm and I'm about to start watching a 2 hour episode of the Bachelor b/c that's what I do every Monday night. I torture myself by staying up way too late to watch the entire episode. I'll pay tomorrow, but at least I'm guaranteed a full night sleep in a hotel alone tomorrow night!

Happy Valentine's Day

Miles & Carson both woke up to some Valentine treats. Miles gets as excited for Carson about his gifts as he does his own. Miles got a How to Draw book, a math workbook (b/c he likes them), some really soft boxes that I knew he would appreciate (and he did), and this magnetic Hangman game. We played the game tonight and it was really cute. Perfect for kids that are learning to spell. I found it at Target for $6.

Carson's teacher sent this pic to us today. We love this kid so much!

Every day in February, the boys woke up to a heart in their room that had a reason we love them. These are Miles...

I was going to skip out on Carson this year, but Miles wouldn't have it.

It felt only fitting to end with these two.

Someone asked me at work today what Darrin and I were doing for Valentine's Day. We didn't make any plans and ended up playing a game of Clue and a couple rounds of Hangman with Miles. Neither of us care about gifts or occasions. Date nights would be nice a little more often, but they just aren't a huge priority right now. We both love being at home so it works. My birthday and Mother's day are the most important to me. Outside of that, it really doesn't matter. One day we will have more time and money. Until then, we will be perfectly fine chilling at home. Happy Valentine's Day!

Weekend Wrap Up

This little guy got a new jumpy and he's pretty happy about it. He is 7 months old today. I totally forgot to do his picture, but there's always tomorrow :)

It is so much fun now that he can sit up and play. He still falls over a lot, but he's getting more steady. He never whines a bit when you hear him fall over. Fingers crossed that he's a tough little cookie!

A selfie on the way to school on Friday...

It's been five years and now this bestie is a cancer SURVIVOR! We did a little celebrating on Friday night. I'm super happy for her and this milestone which means so much to her.

Carson got to meet his Uncle Aaron for the first time.

Darrin's brother and his family moved back to KY from FL. They live close to Darrin's parents now, so we will get to see them much more often. We are thrilled about it. Carson was excited to meet Aunt Jessica too.

These cousins love to be together.

Rowan was there too, but he did his own thing while the kids played.

They each rode down the hill on a big wheel several times. Miles probably wouldn't have done it without watching the girls do it first. Thank goodness for some brave little girls showing him how it's done.

The kids played hide and go seek too. Miles had a great spot, but he purposely made noise so they would find him. I think he was proud of himself for being so clever. Too bad he ruined it!

The weekend went by way too fast. I have a very busy two weeks ahead at work starting early in the morning, so I'm off to bed.

In Case There Was Any Doubt & a Random Tip of the Day

We hear all the time how much Carson looks like Darrin. It's so very true. Darrin's mom brought some baby pictures to our house a couple weeks ago. There's no question.

Exhibit A:

Exhibit B:

I cropped the last picture from this one, but I just couldn't pass up the opportunity to post this treasure. 1976, my friends.

Darrin's mom mentions a lot how happy Darrin was as a baby. She said he smiled all the time, which is exactly like Carson. I would love for Carson to grow into a little toddler that still looks like his daddy b/c he was a cutie.

And now for a random tip of the day. We have tried a million ways to cook corn on the cob. We've boiled it, baked it in the oven, and tried several different ways in the microwave. We have officially found the fastest and easiest way. You just wrap it in wax paper, twist the ends, and cook it in the microwave for 5-7 minutes for 4 ears. You might have to cook it a little longer for more ears. It's easy and not so blazing hot that you can't eat it for 15 minutes after it's cooked. Give it a try!

Weekend Wrap Up

Here's our weekend in no particular order with very minimal commentary. Friday night we were exhausted from a long week of work, school, and daycare.

Miles had his first travel baseball practice.

7 years old is earlier than I wanted to start any travel sport, but this team & the coaches seem like the right amount of hard work, fun, and character building.

Carson longingly stared at an empty bottle after it was over. He eats and drinks everything at every meal and only stops when it's all gone.

This sweet boy slept in my bed while Darrin was out of town for the weekend.

Sad because dad was gone. He was supposed to be gone from Friday to Monday, but surprised us by ringing the doorbell on Sunday afternoon just as we were about to leave for a Super Bowl party. He said he couldn't stand the thought of watching it without us. Football is a big deal in our home.

We did a little grocery shopping on Saturday. It was chilly, but this little sweetie was perfect.

It's so nice now that Miles is old enough to help with chores. I have to remind myself to delegate b/c he really does lighten the load.

We went to Walmart on Saturday for Miles to spend some of his money. He bought a bow & arrow which provided hours of entertainment over the weekend. I bought Clue for us to play. I wish he would spend his money on things like board games, puzzles, and books, but it's never going to happen. So I forked over $10 b/c I really wanted to play Clue. Miles has a little ways (and by little ways I mean a really long way) to go regarding games with strategy, but we still had fun.

Our church had our second annual 'Super Bowl of Goodness' which means that you bring a 'bowl' or plate or dish of something yummy to eat. There is an award for the best tasting and the best presentation. I made hamburger cupcakes. They are cupcakes with a brownie and icing in the middle. Cute, right? I had the lead for presentation going into the 11 o'clock service, but lost out. So fun though. I love our church.

We bummed around the house a lot. That's what we do when Darrin is out of town. Thank goodness Miles and I are homebodies.

We went to the early service on Sunday. I decided to plan on the first service and hope for the best. That way if we didn't make it in time we still had the second service to fall back on. It was actually a smooth Sunday morning which never happens.

Carson and I snuggled a lot and watched more episodes of House Hunters than I care to admit. I miss this little one during the week so I have to soak up time with him on the weekends. I think he feels the same.

It was actually a good weekend even though Darrin was gone. We missed him but the boys were cooperative and we had the right amount of fun and rest.
