Weekend Wrap Up

Our weekend was filled with W-O-R-K but we have a lot to show for it, so I'll get to it.  Saturday morning, my friend, Melanie, and I, had a yard sale at her house.  I did really well at the sale, which funded our home improvement projects for the rest of the weekend.

Sunday after church, we headed to Lowes to get our supplies.  The goals for Sunday and Monday were to organize the detached garage, floor some of our attic space, and do a few minor improvements to the deck area.  We managed to accomplish everything.

First up....building a workbench that I found on Pinterest...

Here's the work bench after a couple hours on Sunday...

We realized that we had enough plywood to make another one, so after a trip to Lowes on Monday morning for more 2x4s, we had two work benches. This is the finished product after a coat of stain.  I wanted a natural looking stain...just something to give it a finished look, but not too finished that I had to be picky with it.

While the work benches were drying, it was time to tackle the garage.  Before...

....and SEVERAL hours later....after...

I think the work benches are better than anything we could have bought, especially for the money.  It took us about $115 to make both of them.

Even with the lawn mower in the garage, we still have a spot for my mom when she comes to visit....

Despite all the work, we still made a little time for a cookout and cards with friends...

Hope your weekend was more restful that ours.  I did remember as I was folding the 5th load of laundry  and feeling completely exhausted that the Bachelorette started tonight.  Yes please & good night!

First Trip to the Library

I took Miles to the city library for the first time.  I've been wanting to take him for a while.  It's been recently remodeled, so it seemed like a great time to check it out.  His behavior has been a little questionable at school lately, so I promised him that we would go on Thursday if he was good that day.  I checked with two different teachers when I got there to pick him up.  They assured me that he had been better, so off to the library we went.

He liked playing the Diego game on the computers.  He plays on the iPad at home, but doesn't play any games on the actual computer.  It did a really good job.

This is his "I'm really having fun & I'm so excited, but I'm trying to stay calm & act cool" face...

He checked out three books, two Batman books & one about Tigers (my pick).  He put them in his backpack and walked to the reading area, which is super cute.

I read one of his Batman books to him.  When we got home, he said that was his favorite part of his trip to the library.

Back to Life...

....back to reality.  Thankfully my life is one that I enjoy coming home to, b/c if not, this vacation would have been near impossible to leave.  I think it may have been the most relaxing vacation I've ever been on.  Unfortunately, it didn't start out that way.  The plan was to leave my house at 5am and pick Stephanie up at her sister's house which 45 minutes south.  I've been to her sister's house several times, but still wasn't exactly sure how to get there so asked for directions again.  I don't know if I was tired or excited, but I got lost and it took me an hour and a half to get there.  I felt like I was in a bad dream  Needless to say, I wasn't in the mood for a "we're on the road" picture like I had planned.  I don't like to drive and Stephanie does, so she hopped in the driver's seat and drove us all the way to Florida.

We stayed at Waterscape in Fort Walton.  It was very nice and both of us said that we would stay there again.  Mid May has to be the best time to go to Florida.  It wasn't crowded at all.  Here are a few pics of our condo...

My room...

Stephanie's room...

It was very nice and we each had our own bathroom too.

The pools were nice, but we never got in the them.  We wore a path to the beach and parked ourselves in beach chairs for four days straight.  It was really amazing.

The water was freezing, which was the only downside to going in mid May.  I did manage to get in the ocean twice.

We did a lot of people watching.  What is up with men digging holes on the beach?  You could see all these men from my chair, digging holes to China, at the same time.  This guy dug a massive hole and then sculpted a turtle in it...

It's hard to see, but this guy is digging with a shovel from Lowes or Home Depot.  A plastic toy would not do for him...

Here are two more...

One guy laid down in his to relax when he was done, but I didn't get a picture of that.  I think we were probably laughing too hard.  I wanted to leave this out of this post and see if Darrin would instinctively dig a hole when we go to the beach in a couple weeks, but it was too good to not include.

When we weren't people watching, we were reading.  Stephanie is a huge reader.  I am not.  However, it seems that when I have nothing else to do, I do actually enjoy reading.  I wouldn't know b/c I never have nothing to do.  I borrowed Jeremy Camp's book I Still Believe to read on the trip.

It was so good that I actually finished it the second day.  Stephanie proudly took me to the book store...

....where I bought two more books.

My reading has slowed tremendously since I got home, but I am almost finished with the Tebow book.  It's very good too, but you have to like football.

We did a lot of shopping.  This was supposed to be a funny picture but Stephanie didn't participate, leaving me looking kind of ridiculous...

We ate yummy dinners every night.  Stephanie's favorite was the Back Porch.

My favorite was Dewey Destin's.

We planned the trip for a long time and I have to say that it definitely delivered.  What a fun, relaxing time that was much needed and very much enjoyed.

Happy Mother's Day

We have a lot to talk about people!  I haven't blogged much over the last week b/c Darrin was gone on his annual golf trip, and as we've discussed before, when he's out of town I usually slack on the blogging.  He does a lot around here and when he's not here, momma just doesn't have as much free time.  He left early last Sunday morning.  Miles and I were home alone until Wednesday when my mom came to visit & help out.  Poor Miles did not like being in our new house without Darrin.  I could tell he just didn't feel safe.  He would constantly look around and ask me if I heard something.  I tried to reassure him, but nonetheless, he slept in my bed every night until my mom got here, and then he slept with her.  He's back in his bed now, so hopefully we didn't derail the good thing we had going.

While Darrin was gone, my mom and I worked around the house.  She and Miles put some grass seed down in hopes to fill in the patchy places.  Our yard is very shaded, so we'll see how it goes.

Saturday I cooked a lot to get ready for Mother's Day lunch, while my mom worked in the yard some more.  Then, we added a few touches to the deck to spiff it up a little. Just a few plants, some spray paint, and a new umbrella.  Not bad...

Finally, Darrin got home around 6pm on Saturday night.  Hallelujah! We both missed him so very much.  I was lonely, and Miles was beside himself without Darrin.  I actually leave on Tuesday for the beach with my bestie, so last week I thought I should go ahead and start preparing Miles.  I told him that when Daddy got home, Mommy would be leaving for a few days.  His response was "YAY!!!!!"  I see where I rate.  It's totally cool.  I know he loves me.

Today was a beautiful Mother's Day.  How nice it was to go to church with my mom and then have Darrin's family down for the afternoon.  Even though we were running late for church, we still took a few pics...

Miles said he didn't want to take a picture with me, but it's Mother's Day so he didn't have a choice.  We had to take several just to get one decent shot...

This will have to do...

This kids ate inside...

...and the adults ate outside.  I thought it might be too cold, but it was so nice.

This might be one of my favorite pictures of these two.  They just get each other...

It was so nice outside we even played a few games of Sequence.  The grown up version...

...and the kid version.  No shortage of games at our house.

This was our Mother's Day present for Darrin's Mom.  Her four grandchildren...

Happy Mother's Day to my Mom and my Mother-in-law.  You are both so special.  Thank you for loving us and spoiling all three of us.  Thanks for spending the day with us.
