3 Year Check Up

On Tuesday, we went to see Dr Bates for Miles' three year check up.  I was excited to see how much he had grown.  He weighs 32 lbs (54th percentile) and is 39 inches tall (83rd percentile).  I only took my small camera for fear of looking like a crazy mom with the big one...so the pictures aren't the greatest.

On the way to the doctor, I prepared him for a shot.  We talked about how it would be a small prick and then it would pinch for just a little while.  We have used a delayed/altered vaccination schedule with Miles.  When I talked to the nurse about our schedule it turned out that he really wasn't due for one.  This was his reaction...

He kept saying that he wanted a prick.  Be careful what you ask for....by the time the visit was over, I changed the schedule and he did get one.  This was the first time that he was inconsolable after a shot.  In the past, he's always gotten over it within seconds.  On Tuesday, he was still crying when we got to the car.  So, I did what any good mom would do....we went and bought a toy.

He took his action figures to play with while we waited.  He lined them up to show Dr Bates, who was appropriately impressed when he came in...

The visit was good.  I really didn't have any concerns to discuss.  We talked about his terrible sleep issues as of late.....which are primarily due to mine and Darrin's inconsistency.  Dr Bates confirmed that was the problem and said that when we've had enough, we just need to draw the line in the sand and not budge.  We definitely need to do this but I'm thinking it will have to wait until after volleyball season.  Dr Bates said it took him 2 hours every night for 2 months.  That just can't happen right now.  We are very thankful for our happy, healthy little boy.

Puzzles

We work a lot of puzzles around here.  Usually I work the outside and then he does the inside.  Yesterday, I looked in his playroom and he was working a puzzle all by himself.  His style is a little unconventional, but he finished one all by himself.

Then, he wanted to work all of them...

I was really amazed.  He did such a good job!  As much as I love to work puzzles, I had to document this milestone :)

High & Lows

A couple highs & lows from our weekend.

Low:  Darrin was out of town from Thursday until early this morning.
High:  Miles slept on Darrin's side of the bed while he was gone...

Low:  Miles woke up between 6-6:30am on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
High:  Waking up early left us a lot of time to play....including working a ton of puzzles...

Low:  Miles did an art project on the carpet...

High:  Our carpet looks terrible anyway.

Low:  Multiple timeouts for repeated use of the word "butthole".
High:  He's too cute to stay mad at.

Low:  Nothing good to eat in our pantry or frig.
High:  Eating dinner in the front seat at Sonic...

We've been a little caged all weekend since Miles was sick.  I've gotten a ton of stuff done this weekend, such as tagging all Miles' consignment items, going through all my fall clothes, taking my clothes to consignment, all of the laundry, grocery shopping, cleaned out some closets and drawers, and lots & lots of playing & movie watching with Miles.  I think he and I are both recharged and ready to go.  Darrin, on the other hand, didn't get home from Arkansas until 2:30am and has been at the office most of the day.  I'm seeing some caffeine in his future.  Hope everyone has a great week.  We have a very busy one ahead.  I'm off to watch Big Brother now. Good night!

Chuck E Cheese

We went to Chuck E Cheese on Miles' actual birthday.  How fun!  He had never been and I hadn't been since I was a kid.  Miles was really excited to check it out...

I knew we were in trouble, when Darrin said as we walked in..."if he wants to spend $100, I think we should let him".  Thankfully we didn't have to spend close to $100 for all three of us to have fun.  Darrin and I probably used a third (maybe more) of the tokens.  We played a lot of games...

He was not a fan of the show.  Characters just aren't his thing...

My favorite game was ski ball.  I remember playing it so much when I was younger and the tickets would just pile onto the floor...

Darrin liked the football game.  It was really fun too...

We ended up with 291 tickets...

Which got us 7 plastic frogs and one pack of Smarties...

It's a toss up as to who had the most fun.  Chuck E Cheese is definitely a new family favorite.  Who knew???

Sick

I was going to post birthday pics from Chuck E Cheese but I have a sick little boy that wants me right next to him at all times.  He was extra clingy this morning at home and when I dropped him off at daycare....and it all made sense when Ms. Ann called this afternoon to say that he was running a 102.5 fever.  She asked him if anything hurt, wondering if it was his throat or ears....he said his knee hurt :)  He's gotten worse since we got home, and so far, Motrin hasn't touched his fever.  As I've said on here before, I do not freak out about much, but fevers scare me.  Really hoping that it doesn't get any higher.  It's amazing that he's let me stay away as long as it took me to post this, so I better get back to him.

Happy 3rd Birthday, Miles

Happy Birthday to Miles!  I love birthdays.  I think birthdays are meant to be celebrated in a big way.  Even though we had a party a couple weeks ago, I still wanted his actual birthday to be special.

First we both jumped in bed with him and wished him a Happy Birthday.  He was already in our bed, but who's noticing...

Then it was time for a few presents.  We kept the presents to a minimum.  The water slide was his main gift, plus his friends spoiled him rotten at his party.  He got some moon dough that makes hamburgers & french fries...

...a Batman mask...

...which he loved...

...some capsules that grow in the bathtub...

...and an Angry Birds game that is kind of like corn hole for kids.  I thought he would love it, but turns out he wasn't that impressed.  The Batman mask was definitely his favorite.

Then it was time to blow out the candles in his breakfast muffin...

This was all before we left for daycare at 7:30am.  The plan was to go to Chuck E Cheese after I picked him up at daycare at 2pm.  Since he's never been, Darrin showed him some videos on YouTube.  He was really excited after watching them.  I love how he's watching the videos in his mask.

I'll post pictures from Chuck E Cheese later this week.  We had a great time.  For now, I leave you with Miles' 3rd birthday interview.

Ink

To his Marmee's dismay, I think there might be some ink in my child's not so near future....

Splash Pad

Our town has a new splash pad.  It's really cute.  We went with Ansley last week to check it out. They had fun playing together...

The water was cold, so they didn't last long...

We went back with Gray tonight.  Miles was a little grumpy all afternoon, so Gray had a lot more fun than Miles...

There were several big kids there tonight, so Gray and Miles both fell or collided with other kiddos a few times.  After multiple rounds of tears, Bethany and I called it a night.  We'll try again another night.  We are definitely glad to have this in Martin.  So cute!
