The Everyday Stuff

Just a few pics our daily life around here right now. Lots of swimming in a freezing cold pool. Kids are crazy. We follow up the cold swims with warm baths and hot chocolate.

Fishing is still a big thing around here. While I'm working I get lots of pictures of fish. I prefer when they are in the pictures.

Carson still wakes up everyday excited to go to school. It amazes me that he's okay with going even though Miles is staying home. He never questions it.

We've been trying to eat better around here. I usually plan the meals on Sunday for the following week and then we meal prep together. Since I've been working out after work, I am lucky enough to walk into the house with dinner on the table. Darrin is more than happy to cook as long as I write what we are having and try to do the marinating or chopping ahead of time. These chicken fajitas and brown rice were amazing.

Carson has TOTs (Teams of Tomorrow) every week at daycare. It's a basketball class that incorporates learning. They gave him a wristband a couple weeks ago and he loves it. We think it is the cutest thing ever that he wears it every week to class.

We've been on a card kick lately, but when I walked into the kitchen tonight they were working a puzzle. It was very easy and we finished it in record time. It was fun though.

They are starting to look more alike.

Carson is getting so tan and his hair is lightening up from the sun. We need to remember sunscreen for daycare. They must be spending a lot of time on the playground which is great, but his little cheeks were red tonight.

Miles is taking excellent care of the garden. Everything is growing nicely. This is the first year that we haven't put a fence around it. It's so nice to not have the fence. I hope the animals will stay out, so we don't have to add it.

Lest anyone should think that all our moments are blissful around here, we had a very rough afternoon earlier in the week. Carson had to live with several consequences due to poor behavior, the hardest one being no more swimming for the night. He had to watch out the window as Miles swam (b/c Miles didn't get in trouble) while he stayed inside. I really think it broke Miles' heart as much as it did Carson's. Carson has been good since that day. He's getting to the age where we have to hold him more accountable. The consistency is hard work!

Popsicles are life around here. I don't let go of the reins in many areas, but endless sugary popsicles during the summer is one area I do :)

Weekend Wrap Up

Baseball is back!!! Carson was so excited to go to Granny & Pa's for the weekend.

And we were so excited to head to Missouri for the first baseball tournament in 77 days as their coach reminded them several times throughout the weekend. He kept telling them to smile and have fun b/c we haven't been able to do this in 77 days!

Miles was happy to be back with his friends...

...doing what they love.

They had a good weekend, finishing 3-1.

Unfortunately, they got put out in the semi-finals and didn't make it to the championship game. There were only a few restrictions due to coronavirus, handshakes being one. The boys stayed on their side of the field and tipped their hats to the other team when the game ended. I can't tell you how nice it was to have a normal (not a new normal) weekend.

It was obvious from the pictures that Carson was very happy and comfortable right where he was.

He even got to see Aunt Crystal.

We managed to squeeze in one home improvement project over the weekend. I've been wanting a better way to store our hats. We don't have a ton, so we just needed a little storage. Before...

After. I had been thinking hooks all along, but then I saw these shelves on Pinterest and knew we had a great place in our closet to make it happen. Not too fancy, but functional and very cost effective.

Since we had a long weekend, the boys still had time to swim...

...and fish.

Unfortunately, the clouds moved in not long after we got there, so our time was cut short.

It was still nice to be outside for a little while together.

Miles caught a turtle for Carson. He loved it and wanted to keep it, but I convinced him to set him free.

We enjoyed the long weekend so much. The rain chances were high on Saturday and Sunday. I am so thankful that it stayed away and let the boys play ball. Now, we are signed up to play the next four weekends, so we'll how long everyone's excitement lasts :) Darrin will be getting back to work (camps) in the upcoming weeks which will leave me solo for a few tournaments. I'm going to do my best to remember this long break and how much I've wanted to get back to normal and watching baseball. So, no complaining...just enjoying!!!
