Weekend Wrap Up

This weekend was all about baseball and hanging out with Hornet Nation friends. We dropped Carson off bright and early at Marmee's house. She was kind enough to watch him Saturday because the games were in the morning and it was very cold.

The boys played in the age bracket above theirs and held their own.

It looks nice and sunny, but it was even colder than last weekend for me.

Miles' friends, Brady, played with his team this weekend and all the boys were so happy to have him again.

Miles caught most the weekend, but pitched an inning and got in a few other positions.

They won one of their games in the last inning and the boys were so happy for the boy that got the RBI to win it. I love this picture of Miles patting his head as he walked off the field.

Any sort of fashion is out the window when it's cold at the baseball field. It's simple fend for yourself.

On Saturday night, some of the baseball moms had a night out. We planned for dinner and a movie. The night got a little off track when we ditched the movie about 10 minutes into it. In the end, we had lots of laughs and random cell phone pics.

On Sunday, it was back to the baseball field for championship Sunday.

The boys earned the 2 seed out of 10 teams. Not too shabby when you are playing up and on longer fields.

They won the semi final game to advance to the championship.

It was steep competition and they came up a lot short.

These boys eat, sleep, and breathe baseball. They play so much and never seem to grow tired of it.

Carson was so good all day. We took him to Dollar Tree before the game and bought some random things to play with. He and another baseball brother stayed busy all day. It was really cold, even sleeting off and on, but he never complained. I think he had the perfect combination of one day at Marmee's house and one day playing at the baseball field.

I really, really hope the next time we play it is significantly warmer. We still had the best time with our Hornet Nation friends.

Getting Ready for Kindergarten

We registered Carson for kindergarten yesterday! A lot of people asked me if I was sad. I am definitely not. He is ready and we are ready for all the fun that is ahead. I'm sure I will shed a few tears when it comes time for him to walk into the school, but I am excited to watch him grow up. When I called to get his immunization record, they said he needed a check up and one last shot.

He weighed 49lbs (77th percentile) and is 44" tall (37th percentile). He was so brave when it was time to get his shot. He climbed up on the table and laid down. The nurse said she wished every kid was like him. After she walked out, he laid on my shoulder and whimpered (I wouldn't even call it crying). I felt bad because it really hurt and he wasn't expecting that. Thankfully, we are done with shots until middle school.

He and I went to get ice cream cones the other night. He said it was delicious. Apparently, he has not had an ice cream cone before, not one that he remembers. I don't know how that is possible. I guess we always get it in a cup to avoid the mess. He did good and not a drop fell.

Getting ready for school one day, he said he needed some of "that and that" pointing to the hair spray and hair scent that I use. He said that he thought the girls would like it. He also told me that one of the little girls in his class is his girlfriend. He said, "She is so beautiful."

I predict that Carson is going to be fairly well behaved in kindergarten and that teachers will like him. I think he's a pretty smart kid, but homework might be a struggle. I'll be curious to look back on this and see how well I know my kid!

How Baseball is Going for Carson

Carson started baseball practice a couple weeks ago. The night before his first practice, Miles said he would get his bag ready for him after school the next day.

I woke up to find him in the garage washing his old helmet with Clorox wipes. He had set his alarm and gotten up early to do it before school. He was very excited for Carson to start his baseball career.

Carson has been waiting for his turn after many weekends of traveling around and watching Miles' play.

He says he wants to be #18, just like Miles. He wore Miles' old jacket to practice. He looked like he was ready!

He has a lot of friends playing baseball, but there are 6 teams, so his friends seem to be spread out. Thankfully, he had one friend from daycare, Tucker.

His first practice was very interesting. I have never seen Carson so passive. Seeing him in an environment that he didn't seem to be comfortable in was a new experience. He didn't necessarily seem to be uncomfortable or unhappy. He was just very timid. I think his behavior stemmed from not knowing was what going on. He just kind of stood there, and not just because he was taking it in. I would have thought that he would have spoken up more and asked questions, but instead he really just froze until someone noticed that he didn't know what to do. I would guess that half the team has played before and it seemed to understood that all the kids knew what they were doing. It was a little hard to watch. I refrained and just let him find his way. On the way home, he said, "I really wanted to play football, not baseball." I assumed he was just tired. This is what he looked like when I opened the backseat to go inside.

The second practice was no better. I started to ask one of the coach's if he could help him with his stance while they were batting, but instead I text Darrin and told him that he and Miles needed to work with him. After all, coaches can only do so much 1 or 2 hours a week. They tried to work with him that weekend, but he really didn't care.

He was happy about going to the third practice. He got a really good hit! Aside from that, it was more of the same. Lots of kneeling while he was in the field and no effort to run after the ball or anything. It's hard to tell if doesn't care or if just doesn't know what to do. Honestly, it feels like indifference.

This was the mood after practice. On the way home from all three practices, he has said that he wants to play football. I reassured him that it was okay if he didn't like baseball and we could try some new things until he found something he liked.

It's still early, but I'm surprised that he's not loving it. On one hand, I feel so bad for him because it feels like a let down after waiting for his turn. On the other hand, I am so regretful that we signed him up. I am not happy that we have added something to the schedule that didn't have to be there. We didn't let Miles play until he was in kindergarten and that felt like such a good decision. We should have stuck to that decision. We skipped all the playing in the dirt and boredom due to age. Although, who knows if Carson will be anymore engaged a year from now. He's a totally different kid than Miles. He keeps saying that he just wants to play a game, so I am very hopeful that he will like the games more than practice. Here's hoping!

Weekend Wrap Up

Miles kicked off the weekend with a dodgeball birthday party that turned into a basketball game. The last couple parties he has been to have basically been an open gym for the boys and there is nothing better in their minds.

Miles played in a one day baseball tournament on Saturday and it was COLD. I can only remember one other time that baseball was this cold.

Miles actually said that it was the coldest he's ever been playing baseball. He never wears long sleeves under his jersey because it bothers him. For him to wear this is saying something.

This picture of one of his coaches tells the story.

He's another example of the cold. Carson stayed with Marmee in her nice, warm house for the first two games and then they came to the later game when it was only slightly warmer. We were so thankful. Since I didn't have to chase after Carson or take him to the bathroom or concession stand, I was able to stay in my sleeping bag for most of the day.

It was a good day of baseball in spite of the cold.

The boys came up just a little short in the semi-final game. I'm looking so forward to hot baseball weekends coming soon.

Today was church and then all the things around the house. We washed cars, cooked, cleaned out the garage, did a gazillion loads of laundry, and I worked out.

These weekends fly by. I'm already looking forward to next weekend and more baseball! Living for the weekends around here :)

Less Words Wednesday

Not many pictures to share today. My mom came to our house and made dinner for us recently which was so nice!

The boys had dentist appointments today. I have no idea where he got his ability to raise one eyebrow.

Come on warmer weather so they can do this more.

No cavities for either boy!

Nothing like waking up to this. It's like he's holding a meeting. Future CEO.

One of his favorite foods is oatmeal, which is just like me as a kid. My grandmother used to make me healthy oatmeal and I'd dump sugar in it when she wasn't looking :)

He only hangs out with me when Darrin is gone.

Weekend Wrap Up

I've got a very quick weekend wrap up because I am in deep with a book and I have to know what happens. I started it Friday night and it has consumed my weekend in the best way. On Friday night, Carson and I hung out at home together. We played games and then he watched TV while I started said book.

Darrin and Miles went to the movies and came out to snow afterwards. I had no idea it was snowing until the ground was completely covered and Carson had gone to bed. I felt so bad that he missed watching it fall. I knew there was a chance, but I blew it off because the last couple predictions have been wrong.

We had a bed full on Saturday morning.

Working out is 100% better with friends.

Girls night out with Stephanie on Saturday night!

I need to write about how baseball is going for Carson which deserves a post by itself. We all worked with him today. About two minutes in, he said, "I don't want to practice baseball" which gives you idea of how it's going.

He would much, much rather be doing this or something like it.

We soaked up some sunshine. The boys played baseball, basketball, rode a scooter, and went for a ride on the 4-wheeler. We are so ready for warmer days. Daylight savings time is a step in the right direction.

We went to church this morning and back tonight for a parent session on social media. It was lead by our youth pastor who we are so lucky to have. It left us with a lot to ponder.

We were supposed to have a baseball tournament this weekend but the snow changed those plans. We were super bummed, but it was a nice weekend at home. Now, back to my book!
