Change of Plans & Opening Presents Early
I had a change of heart over the weekend and officially decided on Tuesday to postpone my surgery. I pondered and prayed for a few days and then, after talking to my doctor's nurse, decided that this didn't have to be done right now. It felt a little rushed for the wrong reasons, two of which being my deductible being met and Darrin's schedule. The issues that I was having aren't as bad right now, so hopefully they will stay that way. I am so relieved to be able to enjoy Christmas and not deal with another recovery. I just started feeling like myself again and the thought of going back down that road seemed dreadful.
And now for my very important thoughts on opening presents early...I mentioned that I let Miles open a board game over the weekend so we could go ahead and start playing it. Last night, Darrin and I opened our one and only gifts to each other. We each got a shirt that we wanted to wear to our family get together on Christmas Eve, so of course we had to open them early. I let Miles open the Who Would Win book set since we were opening a gift (I didn't pay half that, btw). I purposely picked this gift, b/c it likely would have gotten lost in all the 'fun' stuff on Christmas day. So my thought is....why not go ahead and open presents gradually and begin using them while he's home over Christmas break instead of saving everything for one specific day?? I think it's genius. He doesn't know why I'm letting him open some gifts, but he's loving it.
Darrin sent me this picture while I was at work today. He said they were going outside to work in the shop. I think he's a little excited to have two boys to do guy stuff with.
He sent another text minutes later and said immediately after the above picture was taken Carson became inconsolable and eventually fell asleep. They never made it to the shop, which is just life with a baby.

Movie Date with Miles & Some Other Pics
Darrin held the fort down tonight while Miles and I went to the movies.
I can't remember the last time that I spent time alone with Miles. As soon as we got to the movies he said that he wished Darrin and Carson were there. I can appreciate that. We went to see Sing. It was entertaining. I think it might have been the first kids movie that didn't have a scary villain, to which I say thank you. Miles is scared of his own shadow and I just don't understand why kids movies have anything remotely scary in them. I may or may not have fallen asleep a few times, but that had more to do with little brother who kept me awake last night.
Speaking of the little one, he had baby food for the first time last night. He's been a little fussy over the last few days. I'm trying to determine if it's from teething, constipation, or if his milk isn't satisfying him completely.
He gobbled up the whole stage 1 container of green beans and easily would have eaten more. As I said earlier, he kept me awake last night, but maybe a few more feedings will help.
He had bananas this morning and more green beans tonight. We lowered the bottles that he drank with these feedings down to 6 ounces and left the others at 7-8 and he's finished everything. The kid does not play when it comes to food. What a long way he's come from his NICU days of not eating.
Miles played Eye Found It with Carson this past weekend. He played his turn and then Carson's turn. I can't imagine how much he's going to love it when Carson can interact more with him.
Breaking news, an elf finally came to our house. All Miles' friends have elves and he didn't understand why we've never had one.
I couldn't imagine why Santa wouldn't send one to our house, but maybe he thought that we already had busy schedules around here and that an elf may not get the time and attention he needs. I guess Santa finally thought it was time.
Miles (and Darrin) used an online chart to name our elf. It correlated to words to your name and initials or something like that.
Our elf is named Twinkle Sugar Socks, but we just call him Twinkle.
As you can see, he's been up to some mischief around here. We like him and we're glad he's here. He needs to stay out of our M&Ms though.
We celebrated Christmas with Darrin's parents last night. More to come on that. In the meantime, Carson got the cutest walker ever from Granny & Pa and he likes it!

Weekend Wrap Up
Our weekend started on Thursday night with a visit from my mom. She was excited to hold this cutie again.
Carson slept all night on his back. This is a major accomplishment. He really has become a pretty good sleeper but he's still finicky about his positioning. I'm hopeful he becomes a great sleeper when he can roll around and position himself.
Friday, I went to Miles' Christmas party at school. I didn't tell him I was coming until the night before just in case something came up. He started jumping up and down and hugging me. Sometimes it's easy to forget how much kids love and adore their parents. They had pizza, Doritos, and Little Debbie Christmas tree cakes. Sounds like perfect party planning to me.
He was excited to show me everything in his desk. His teacher must be Type A b/c everything was perfectly labeled and sorted. I think I've said it a few times on here, but I really, really like her. She's easy to talk to, communicates well, keeps Miles in line, and is teaching him so much.
These three were in the same class last year too. They are big buddies. They started out at the same table, but I think Miles got them all moved b/c of his talking. The other two are perfectly behaved so I know it wasn't them :)
This is his new table. Seems like a good crowd for Miles. They were all very mild mannered.
He sits right next to this little girl, Miriam. The other day Miles asked Darrin for some of his mouthwash before school. Then it came out that Miriam told him his breath smelled good one day. I don't think he has a crush on her, but it did seem to be positive reinforcement. Thank you, Miriam!
Saturday, we spent a lot of time at home. I only left the house to go to the grocery store. I wanted to take the boys to see Santa. Miles hasn't sat on Santa's lap since he was 4 months old. He agreed to with Carson. I couldn't find anywhere besides the mall and I really didn't feel like driving an hour round trip and waiting in line for who knows how long. We've survived without Santa pictures this long and Miles really doesn't care. Maybe one day Carson will indulge me. Carson spent time in the Exersaucer...
In his Bumbo...
And randomly on the counter. Don't worry, he was well protected.
After church this morning, Miles decided that he wanted to make cards for all the neighbors. I suggested putting them in their mailboxes, but he wanted to ring each doorbell and hand them out in person. I have no idea was sparked this. He mentioned that a girl in his class did something like this, so maybe he was inspired by that. We counted the houses on our street and he got to work on 12 cards.
I don't know what got into my shy little boy, but he was so confident and happy to walk up to each door by himself. I stayed in the car. Every house in our neighborhood has several acres of land, so walking from house to house would have been very hard especially since it was 22 degrees outside. He struck out a lot and ended up leaving them on their doorstep, but he did get to talk to 4 people. They were so sweet to him.
This was his card. I tried to get him to sign his name so they would understand that this was his idea but he insisted that it was from all of us. He didn't want to spend much time on the cards. He was most interested in seeing the people and giving them a card.
Darrin and I did some meal prep this afternoon. We have meal prepped in many different ways. Today, we cooked the vegetables for the week so all we have to do at night is make the meat. We've tried the opposite, but reheated chicken is not my favorite, so we'll see how this works.
We are breaking all the rules this Christmas season. Miles opened his second present. It was the game Eye Found It. I let him open it so we could play it today. We played it twice and had fun. There are always so many gifts on Christmas that some get lost in the chaos. Since I probably won't feel great from surgery, this way we already got some use out of it.
Darrin and Miles worked a puzzle tonight, while I held Carson and watched TV. I love dimming the lights when the tree is up and watching TV while looking at the tree. It feels so cozy and peaceful, especially when it's so cold outside.

Carson is learning how much fun visits from Marmee are. I'm sure Miles has filled him in.

We don't know our neighbors well at all...some not at all. I saw one lady pointing to houses with him trying to figure out where we lived. I'm glad they got to meet my sweet boy today. He wants to do more for them in the future. I think he gained some confidence today, which was totally worth my time.

Now it's time for bed. I have a busy three days of work getting ready to be out for 2 weeks. Our HR department sent out and email last week saying we could wear jeans the last two weeks of the year. That is a big deal in the financial industry where dress clothes rule. I always feel more productive in jeans, so here's hoping I am able to get everything done by surgery time on Thursday. Good night, all!

Miles' Christmas Program & Baking Christmas Cookies
Miles had his Christmas program at school tonight. His buddy, Tyler, is not in his class this year, so it's always good to be able to take pictures at things like this.
Miles spotted us pretty quickly after they took their places. The program was called Christmas at the OK Corral. He has been singing the songs for weeks. He tried out for a speaking part, but didn't get one. I could tell he felt a little rejected b/c he brought it up a few times. There were only around 10 parts for 9 classes. Two kids from his class had speaking parts, so that was exciting for him to watch his friends. His part was called a Townsperson :)
The theme was western hence all the plaid and cowboy hats. Miles really got into the moves and belted out every word of every song.
He was beyond excited to have Carson there. He's always asking for him to come when we eat lunch or attend a party, but we always say no b/c of the germs. When I told him Carson was coming to watch him tonight he was so excited and said "No way!" in a shocked voice.
Miles wanted his picture with Mrs. April. I think he has a love/hate relationship with her b/c she gets onto him and he doesn't like any kind of criticism. I think she's fantastic.
It was crazy after the program was over and we didn't get a chance to take any pictures with friends. We were happy to run into Gaige and his mom out in the party lot.
It was a cute little program. I'm thankful that Miles goes to a school that does stuff like this. Miles sure loved it.
We baked some sugar cookies recently. It's getting to be so much fun now that Carson can be right there with us. It's hard to tell but Darrin put some flour on his nose in this picture.
I received some new cookie cutters as part of a Secret Santa exchange. The new shapes were fun. We iced them too, but I didn't take any pictures of the final product. They didn't last long around here.
If Miles is around, Carson doesn't take his eyes off of him.
Off to bed I go. Carson is sleeping well, but he still cries when he rolls to his back, which results in me having to go put him back on his side. We've decided that the best sleep plan for us is for Darrin to stay up and feed him at 10pm, so I can go to bed early. Then, I get up if he cries during the night. Sometimes he doesn't and sometimes it's 2 times like it was last night. Our plan only works if I make myself go to bed early. It's already 10:15pm, so I better get to sleep!
