Let the Parties Begin

We had our first Christmas get together last night.  We celebrated with Darrin's mom & dad, his sister, Crystal, her husband, Steve, our nieces, Olivia & Ava, and our great niece, Lilly.

We got together at night, but had breakfast for dinner, which is the best time to have it.  The kid table...

Half way through dinner the lights went out.  The weather was really nasty, even tornado warnings around us.  That's what happens when it's 70 degrees in December.  It didn't stop the kids from finding their presents.

They used flashlights, Christmas candles, and cell phones to search under the tree.

Miles was the last to get his stack and I could see the concern all over his face.  When his loot was set in front of him, he was all smiles...

These two...

One of Miles' gifts was a robe.  He looks like a cross between a little king and a boxer...

Lilly loved her presents.  The girl knows how to pose...

Crystal doing some weights with one of Steve's presents...

She might need to work on those muscles...

We played Telestrations again and had lots of laughs.  My favorite guess of the night...

The lights came back on while we were opening presents.  We stayed after presents long enough for the kids to play and for the adults to play some too.  Then, the weather was just too bad and we had to leave.  We were seeing all over Facebook where roads were closing due to flooding.  We passed a couple cars off the road and a little flooding on the way home, but made it home safely.  The storm ended about the time we got home.  It was a memorable Christmas for sure!

Tacky Christmas

We hosted a Tacky Christmas party for our Sunday School class last Saturday.  We hung out, played games, exchanged funny gifts, ate, and even made a Harlem Shake video.  Can't ask for much more than that.  Always a good time with this group...

We thought we would branch out from the tacky sweaters and do our own version of tacky.  With the recent outrage rage between Duck Dynasty and A&E, my Facebook newsfeed tells me that we are on the wrong side of the joke.  Nothing against Duck Dynasty, I just think wearing their 'get up' is a bit tacky :)

Travis was our party planner for the night.  Superb job.

Let the games begin...

A couple days after the party, we found out that Tori is pregnant.  In other words, I'm saying, "WHAT?? You are having baby #4???"

A few night owls stayed and played Telestrations.  I bought it on a recommendation from Darrin's Aunt Kim.  It totally lived up to the hype.  If you like games, go buy it now.  You're welcome.

I believe a good time was had by all.

Santa Comes to Daycare

Santa made a surprise visit at daycare yesterday.  The kids had no idea even though he comes every year :)  He came walking down the hall jingling a bell.  Some were nervous, but most were elated...

He called out every child's name and gave them a present from his bag...the parents may or may not have been responsible for bringing a $8-10 gift without a gazillion pieces or small parts that could be easily lost.  As he called out each name, Miles was on his knees behind Amelia playing with her hair :)

She was very patient, only turning around a few times to look at him as if to question what in the world he was doing.  She never seemed to get frustrated.  Good thing since he still claims that he's marrying her.

When Santa called Miles' name, he wouldn't go up there by himself.  Ms. Debra walked with him...

He grabbed the gift...

...and got the heck out of there...

After all the presents were handed out, they went back to their room to open them...

Miles got a "grabber" that lights up and talks in a robot voice.  Big hit.  He immediately put it to good use...

Santa hung around and we were able to go back out and get a picture.  He was much braver this time...

I'm so thankful for Miles' daycare and all the teachers that go above and beyond for them.

Even Trade

Darrin & I had to go to a retirement dinner for Phil tonight & we couldn't take Miles.  No kids allowed.  We decided to trade poppyseed chicken for babysitting services.  Darrin sent a group text to the volleyball girls and these two took the bait.  Thanks Chelsea & Amanda!

Weekend Wrap Up

Welcome to the random edition of Weekend Wrap Up.  I've already taken an Ambien, so I feel like I'm racing against the clock to write this post.  Our snowy day continued on Saturday.  We ventured out in the morning to get Miles' hair cut and then to Dollar Tree to reward his good behavior.  $3.29 is so little to pay for my sanity.

On the way home, we came up on a car in the ditch.  The police stopped us and didn't really want to let us attempt to cross the bypass to get home.  Thankfully, we were less than a mile from home and they let us go.

We played games in front of the fire that night.  We can't get enough of the fireplace.

Church was cancelled this morning.  We made cinnamon flop for breakfast.

I must share this recipe.  I love it because I generally have all the ingredients at home and don't have to make a trip to the store just to make it.

Cinnamon Flop
Mix together 2 cups of self rising flour, 1 cup of sugar, and 1 cup of milk.   You may have to add more milk to get all the flour & sugar mixed together.  I've learned you can't really mess it up.  Spread in the bottom of a greased 9x13 pan.  Sprinkle the top with 1/2 cup of brown sugar.  Then, sprinkle generously with cinnamon.  Pour one stick of melted butter over the top and bake for 20 minutes on 350.  While it's baking, mix powered sugar & water together to make a runny icing.  I don't measure the icing, but it's probably 2 cups of powdered sugar.  Pour it over the top when it comes out of the oven.

It's so good & so easy.  You can also half the recipe, which is what we did this morning.

After breakfast, I worked around the house....laundry, wrapped presents, ordered some things online, etc...and played, of course...

When Miles woke up from his nap, we went and got more firewood from Darrin's Uncle John & Aunt Kim, and went to Walmart.  Miles & I ate spaghetti, while Darrin worked via a conference call for a couple hours.

Miles eats so much.  He's definitely going through a growth spurt.  He's outgrowing his 4T clothes.  The other day he said, "Do you know how hungry I am?"  I said, "No, how hungry?"  He said, "Infinity.  I'm never going to stop eating."

Another funny comment by Miles the other day....Darrin was washing grapes and dropped one.  It rolled under a console table in the kitchen.  He asked Miles to pick it up.  A few minutes later, Darrin asked him if he picked it up.  Miles said, "Yes, I ate it....but I knocked the fur off first."  Awesome.

And for the last random thought of the night...my mom bought Miles a Lego Advent set.  It is the cutest Advent calendar ever.  You put something together everyday to make a Christmas scene.  He is very routine about it.  He walked downstairs this morning and first questioned if we closed the flue on the fireplace last night.  Apparently, that was bugging him.  After Darrin assured him that we did, he immediately started today's Legos.

I think my time is running out for the night.  Miles had a mini freak out at bedtime tonight, which was slightly exhausting.  I think he's had a lot of time at home with us, which is code for a lax schedule & getting his way a lot.  Back to the real world for everyone tomorrow.  Good night!
