We had an appointment for Miles' 12 month well check up today. It turned into a well visit without shots, and a sick visit. I took the follow pic with my cell phone, while holding him. Not a good pic, but you can see how pitiful he feels.
The daycare called Monday afternoon and said that he was running a low grade fever and that he didn't feel good. When I picked him up, his class was on the playground. Ms. Amanda (his fav teacher from his old class) was holding him and he was laying on her shoulder. Poor guy. He had been up a lot the night before but we blamed it on teething, which is what we always do. One day we'll learn that it never turns out to be that.
He was up a lot last night screaming and crying between us, in our bed. Dr. Bates is famous for viral infection diagnoses and no medicine. I like that b/c there is no sense in medicine when it won't help, but it's definitely frustrating when you want so badly for it to be something you can treat. In the middle of the night Darrin said that I better not leave the doctor without medicine. Unfortunately, I did. Dr. Bates said his ears looked perfect. His throat was very red but the strep test came back negative. We just have to wait it out. He said it could last up to 7-10 days. Please no.
I'm working on 5 hours of sleep in 2 days and Darrin is exhausted too. We really should rotate nights to take care of him, but we seem to enjoy suffering together. I guess misery loves company. Not that taking care of Miles is miserable....it's just the sleep deprivation. You know. I've been having trouble sleeping and just got a prescription for Ambien. Unfortunately I will have to wait until Miles is better to take some. Can't wait.
As for Miles check up...he hasn't grown much in the last three months. As Dr. Bates put it, he's settled down in the percentiles. He weighs 21lb 8oz (33rd percentile). He is 30" long (64th percentile). This is half of me, by the way. His head is 47cm (70th percentile). All that looked great to Dr. Bates. The weight didn't bother him b/c he's becoming so active.
I also talked to him about the milk allergy. The plan is to continue with the soy milk until he's 15 months. At that time, we'll try whole milk again and see if he can tolerate it. Between now and then, we can try to introduce some dairy products to see if he has any reaction. I'm anxious to try yogurt and cheese b/c he loves both of them, but we're going to wait until he feels better and probably until after his party on Saturday. We want him to have a great 1st birthday.
Off to take a bath and rest. Notice I didn't say sleep. I anticipate a long night with the little man. Sweet dreams!
