Peace Offering

I told Miles that if he took a good nap this afternoon, I would take him to the gym and let him play in the ball pit while I ran.  Our gym has a little kid area with a slide and ball pit.  Darrin has taken him once, but I've never tried it.  I could just imagine him yelling at me from the ball pit while I was running next to him on the treadmill.  I worked on him all morning, reminding him that I couldn't stop running and that he would have to play by himself.

While he napped, I even downloaded several new games on my Kindle for him to play in case the ball pit wasn't enough.  He was all excited when he woke up.  As we drove to the gym, I reminded him that I would be running while he played in the ball pit.  He said, "Momma, you run on the black thing?"  I said, "Yes."  He said, "Momma, you wipe your face?"  I guess he saw Darrin do that when he took him.  The kid is ridiculously observant. It's probably been 6 months since they went.

Unfortunately the play area is closed on the weekends.  I tried for about 5 seconds to get him to play on the Kindle, but there was no consoling him.  His heartbreak could be heard throughout the gym.

The tears continued even after we got to the car.  So, this was my attempt to rectify the situation.  It worked, and all was well in his life again.
