Family Fun Day

Darrin is about to leave on his annual golf trip for several days, so we spent the day getting him ready to leave, doing a few things around the house to make things easier on me while he's gone, lots of laundry, and just hanging out together.

First up was grocery shopping.  I saw an idea on Super Nanny to give your child a grocery list with pictures so that they can help you find things and hopefully avoid boredom....and therefore avoid bad behavior.  I drew his list in about a minute b/c it was a last minute thought...

He was very excited about having his own list the whole way to the store.  He kept reciting everything on his list.  After we got there, he wasn't that into it, but he was good nonetheless, so mission accomplished, maybe?

We saw Darrin's Uncle John while we were in Walmart.  He gave Miles a $10 and told him to buy something.  The adults in Darrin's family are cool like that....they give random dollars for his piggy bank and stuff..  He bought a water gun...

....and a water table.  Yes, it was slightly over $10, but who's counting?

Miles and I took 3.5 hour naps, which was fantastic, and then we played outside all afternoon.  We have really been enjoying hanging out in our backyard.  It's hard to believe that it's May and it was already so hot outside.  We have absolutely no shade in our yard, so we are enjoying playing outside while we still can.  When it gets too hot, we have to move the party to the front yard in the afternoons b/c the house gives us a little shade.  Even still, it's impossible to stay outside for very long.

Then, we grilled out for dinner.  I don't share too many recipes on here b/c I personally think recipes on a blog are boring.  Sorry, I do.  I love to cook though, and must share two Pinterest recipes that we are loving.

Grilled Balsamic-Garlic Crusted Pork Tenderloin
3 tsp minced garlic
2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
2 tsp coarse salt
1/2 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 pork tenderloins (about 1¼ pounds each) (I divide the package of two and freeze one for later)

Marinate the tenderloin with all the ingredients all day (or even all night).  Heat the grill to highest temperature.  Put the tenderloin on for 30 seconds, rotate to all 4 sides - 30 seconds each, just enough to seer it.  Lower temp to medium-low.  Cook for 8 minutes. Flip and cook for 8 minutes.  Remove from the grill and cut 3/4 of the way through in half inch pieces.  Return to the grill for 8 minutes on low heat.

Corn on the Cob
Put the corn, with husks, in the sink and fill with water for 2-3 minutes while the oven preheats to 350.  Then bake the corn on a cookie sheet for 25-30 minutes.  The husks and silks will come right off.  That's all.  Yummy!

After dinner we watched Alvin & the Chipmunks Chipwrecked.  I was the only one that was half way entertained.  Not sure why Miles wasn't interested, but he wasn't.  Everyone is fast asleep now, so I think I will follow their lead.  Good night.
