I don't have much of a weekend wrap up b/c I only took a few pictures that I'll probably end up sharing on another day. The boys spent all day Saturday and most of Sunday with Darrin's parents. We usually reserve their help for times when we really need it b/c baseball or our jobs, but we decided we wanted a date night and some free time together. We hung around the house on Saturday. Darrin worked outside and I worked inside. We rode the 4-wheeler for a little while and just had a slow day. We went out to dinner and ran a few errands on Saturday night and then came home to watch college softball, which ended up with us passing out on the couch until 3am. It was a fun weekend together.
Since I don't have much of a weekend wrap up, I thought I'd share a story about each boy from this week. These are the little things I don't want to forget. One day this week, Carson got in our bed in the middle of the night. He tossed and turned until morning. He slept some, but probably not soundly. When we got up to get ready for work and school, he disappeared. When Darrin checked the monitor, he had gone back in his room, closed the door, climbed back in bed, and fell fast asleep. We ended up having to wake him up for daycare. For all the ways that Carson is more difficult than Miles was, this is definitely an area that he is much easier. Miles was a pretty good sleeper, but he never chose to sleep and getting him to sleep was always a challenge. Carson frequently asks to go to sleep. He will randomly say "me go night night" or just "night night" whether it be nap time or bedtime. We have had the bedtime routine of reading books in his room for a couple years now. The last two nights when we took him to his room to read books he just asked to go straight to sleep. I think he really likes his new bed.
I don't have a pic to go with Miles' story, but he and Darrin did go see Godzilla on Friday night so I thought would include that. Miles said it was great b/c it "had a little bit of comedy, drama, and had some action" He's such a little adult. So for his story...also this week, Darrin and I were sleeping soundly in our room when we heard a noise at 3am. After taking a few seconds to wake up, we realized the noise was Miles' using his Alexa to 'drop in' on our bedroom. If you aren't familiar, you can use Alexas as an intercom system between rooms. It's called "dropping in". It makes a distinct noise when someone drops in, so we knew what it was. We were so startled. Then, we heard Miles say "Dad" faintly. It was strange and it sounded like something was wrong. We use Alexa to drop in randomly but never at 3am. Darrin quickly went over to his room to check on him. After a few minutes they both came back and Miles crawled into bed with us. He was crying and shaking. He had a bad dream that bad guys were beating down our front door and hurting us with guns. He was so terrified that he couldn't move, especially since the front door is between his room and our room. It was a strange experience, but I thought it was a pretty smart move to use his Alexa to get our attention.
I had a great first week back at work and can't wait to go back tomorrow. It's funny, we are pretty busy right now at work, but I am loving it and am so glad to be back despite the stress. It's true when they say that attitude and perspective are a big part of happiness. I'm excited for another week!
