Weekend Wrap Up

Ten quick pictures from our weekend b/c Darrin has been out of town and I'm tired. While he was gone I survived golf camp, baseball practices, a baseball tournament in Memphis, speaking a church, and a middle of the night safety check from our county sheriff b/c I discovered our shop was open & the light was on at 12:30am a couple nights ago. Turns out Miles left it open, but I didn't know that at the time. I wasn't totally freaked out, but I didn't think it was responsible to just go to bed without checking out the situation. Momma's tired.

This is what it looked like while Miles and I were driving to Memphis on Saturday morning for baseball. Carson was with Darrin's parents.

We wasted time in Target during the rain delay. Our game started 1.5 hours later than planned, which I didn't think was that bad considering how hard it rained.

Darrin decided Friday night that he was going to come home Saturday instead of Sunday. He would miss the Saturday games b/c he had to drive home from Orlando, but would be there for Sunday's games. When I text him at 6:30am on Saturday to tell him to be careful, he said he was west of Atlanta. He woke up at 1am and couldn't sleep so he started driving. He surprised Miles before his second game. He's such a great dad. Miles and I were at each other's throats by the time he got there. He quickly told us both that there would be no more arguing b/c he was happy to be there.

We woke up at 6am this morning to head back to Memphis for the rest of the tournament. Miles got ready super fast so he could check on the garden before we left. We were about to get in the car to leave when we got the text saying that we were on a rain delay again. We decided to wait it out at home. Shortly after, the games were suspended for the day. They are rescheduling for next weekend since it is the state tournament. Normally, they would just cancel. We are the #2 seed and have a favorable schedule so hopefully we will play as well next weekend as we were playing this weekend.

We picked up Carson and then came home to play outside, his favorite place to be. I sat in that chair for over two hours while he played contently by himself. It was a miracle. I was bummed about missing baseball, but it was such a relaxing afternoon that it kind of made up for it.

Darrin and Miles went to the driving range. Miles is loving golf right now. I'm so glad. I think he could be really good at it. It seems to fit his personality too.

After they got home from the driving range, we had a great summer night at home.

Carson played in the sprinkler while we watered the garden.

We roasted hot dogs and marshmallows for dinner. Keeping Carson out of the fire was a little bit of a challenge. He doesn't pronounce the "h" at the beginning of words, so he kept saying the fire was "ot". He also says "ome" for home. It's cute.

Miles sure does love country living. He is ecstatic about the garden right now. He got two squash out tonight and was beyond excited about it.

Another busy weekend is in the books!

8 Pictures From Our Day

Technically, this pic is from last night. I spoke at a woman's group at church last night on the subject of prayer. I used to be so afraid of public speaking that it would keep me awake the night before. I would worry about it for days. I don't know if I've gotten over it with age or if it's b/c I have to do a lot more speaking for my job now. Either way, I'm so thankful to not be crippled by that fear anymore. I was a little nervous to get started, but then I actually enjoyed it.

Miles is going to golf camp this week at Darrin's school. He has to come to work with me for the first hour and then I take him over there at 9am when it starts. He could hardly wait to go this morning. He was showing me the different golf grips that he's learned.

The first day he took my clubs b/c he's outgrown his. They were way too long. So, we borrowed some last night. He said he's never hit the ball so far. He's always loved golf, examples A, B, C. It could be his sport if he'd stick with it. I think we found the perfect birthday present in a couple months.

Boys and their video games. Oh and we may have a real fight on our hands with Carson & his pacifier. Not a fight I'm willing to tackle at this time.

Carson was a handful tonight. This is in the middle of a fit. He didn't sleep great last night, so he was probably just tired. He's been a little "off" lately. I may or may not have given him Benadryl tonight. Surprisingly, it calmed his little mood down so much. He was much happier after that.

He does the cutest thing where he hold his breath and clinches his fists with excitement. This was his excitement over cheese :)

Our garden is growing! This is the second zucchini that we've gotten. We ate the first a couple nights ago. Miles said it was the best zucchini he's ever eaten. We also planted squash, lettuce, tomatoes, carrots, cucumbers, bell peppers, chives, and watermelon. We'll see how it goes since this is our first year to have a garden. Darrin did a really good job with it.

I prefer that Carson go to bed around 8pm, but lately he hasn't been ready for bed until 8:30-9pm. I think that's too late for an almost 2 year old, but if you try to put him down before he's ready, he screams and cries. If he's ready, he will all but ask to go to bed and lay down willingly. Tonight at 9pm, I asked if he was ready to go to bed and he said "a huh". He gave Miles a hug and kiss and walked to his room. He doesn't get up until 7am, so I can live with 10 hours of sleep, even though I would prefer 11-12.

Miles has since fallen asleep in the exact position of the above picture. I'd say it's bedtime for everyone.

Less Words Wednesday

Carson fell in the garage a couple days ago. I didn't see what happened but he walked away with a nice bump on his forehead. I'm resigned to the fact that this is how he's going to look 90% of the time. Between Carson's face and Miles' legs, the McClure boys are looking a little rough these days.

Weekend Wrap Up

Miles started the weekend with a bang. He had an unfortunate treadmill mishap. It obviously wasn't anything serious, but it was and is uncomfortable which caused a bit of tough love after an extreme amount of patience by both Darrin and me. There was screaming, crying, and tears, but we all survived.

Saturday, he pushed through three baseball games with tall, scratchy socks and catching gear. He was a trooper. Carson was quite a little trooper too. He was excellent on the 1.5 hour drive. No problems and I didn't even have to sit in the back seat. I brought a cardboard box and some stickers and crayons to try to amuse him during the games.

I had high hopes, but he wasn't entertained. I wish this picture accurately described his interest level, but it doesn't. It was so hot, that a couple of the crayons melted in the box causing a little mess. On to the next ploy.

Miles' team finished as champions!

There were only three teams in the tournament, but they went 3-0 and played some really good defense. It was soooooooo hot too. We were very proud of them.

We have a great group of dads that are all super involved with their boys. It's a joy to be around them and have them influence Miles.

Carson was great on the way home too! He was near perfect all day. At one point, I had to change his outfit and diaper in the bathroom without a changing station. His diaper was really dirty and he literally stood still for me the whole time. He woke up on the right side of the bed and it was such a nice day!

We have one weekend of baseball left and then who knows what my weekend wraps will consist of??? It has been a fun season of baseball. We have loved it, but a break does sound kind of nice.

Happy Father's Day

Just a quick post tonight to say Happy Father's Day to Darrin! He is a great dad is always thinking about how we need to parent so that our boys grow up to be kind, respectful, hard working, compassionate men that follow Jesus all the days of their lives. As my card to him said, these days of our lives are very busy but he helps me stay sane through it all.

Darrin's parents came to church with us and spent that afternoon hanging out. It was too hot to do anything outside, so we ordered take out (b/c going to a restaurant with Carson would not be a Father's Day gift for anyone) and played a few games. They also stayed with the boys while we went to get Carson's birthday gift. I can't believe he'll be two in less than a month!

Darrin got a baseball picture of Miles with a quote, a homemade card from Miles, a craft that Carson made at daycare, and a card from me. We got Pa a gift card to Dairy Queen and a huge box of individual potato skin chips that he loves from Sam's. It was kind of joke, but kind of not. I'm all about the practical.

Happy Father's Day to Darrin & Lonnie. We love you both!!

Weekend Wrap Up

We had another hot weekend of baseball. I not complaining though. We love doing the baseball thing as a family, even if it is blazing hot. I will complain a little about this one though. I have to ride in the back seat between his car seat and Miles' booster seat. It's not a comfortable place to be, but it does cut down on the screaming.

I engineered some blanket forts which entertained him/them for a good 10 minutes.

We played in Oxford, Mississippi, which was a new place for us to play. They have turf infields. It was interesting. We tied (due to the time limit) both of our pool games on Saturday. We scored several runs in the bottom of the last inning just to tie, so it was pretty exciting.

After the first game, we met Darrin's coaching friend at Ole Miss to tour their newly renovated facilities. Darrin's team played there several times in his previous job, so it was neat to go back and see how awesome it is now.

After both games were finished on Saturday, it was time for some swimming in the hotel pool. Carson didn't know what to think of his cool, new suit. He kept unzipping it.

The hotel pool was a tiny, indoor pool. The team was cRaZy, so Carson and I excused ourselves and came back to the room for a bath and bed. He was so happy to be back in the room where it was less chaotic. I do enjoy hanging out with the other parents very much, but I have to say that Carson and I had some good, quality time. After his bath, we laid in bed until he fell asleep. He never tried to get down. He kept getting close to my face so he could see me in the dark and then he would kiss my face. Precious time with him!

Miles slept with Darrin and Carson slept with me. In the morning, Carson climbed in bed with Miles and snuggled a little. Those sweet moments with Carson are rare...we all know that. Miles said, "I wish he would stay here forever." Be still my heart....I know the feeling.

We let Miles take his tablet to breakfast b/c playing electronics next to your friends is a thing. Usually we always say no, but we made an exception and he was very excited about it.

We won our first bracket game on Sunday and lost our second. It was good competition. We just didn't have enough that day. We only have two weekends of baseball left until the fall. It went by so quickly!

We got home around 7pm on Sunday. My mom and my niece, Joey, came to stay with us for a few nights. Joey is visiting from Florida. She is my brother's daughter. She and Miles haven't seen each other since they were toddlers. They instantly hit it off. Much more to come on that. We have had the best time with her!

Embracing the Boy Mom Life

God knew what he was doing when he gave me two boys. I've had to lighten up and let certain things go, in order to embrace the #boymom thing. Boys are smelly, silly, accident prone, talk about poop every waking moment and there's nothing you can do about it. We play outside and come inside to baths and laundry almost every night. We ride 4-wheelers, play in dirt and mud, and are now looking for a camper.

I've learned that I'm outnumbered and that boys are just boys. But, boys are also sweet, funny, and handsome. I never could have imagined that being a mom would be like this, but it sure is fun.

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday wrapped up with a little painting at daycare for Carson. He has to be loving his new class b/c they do activities all the time. The last room was just the baby room where they played, ate, and slept. Now, he's getting into some learning. He looks so serious about his work.

Miles went to rec camp all week at Darrin's school. I had to pick him up on Friday afternoon and bring him back to work with me for an hour. He wasn't much help :) Poor kid was exhausted from a busy week that he absolutely loved. Hand ball and dodge ball were his favorites.

Saturday morning started bright and early with some baseball. Carson was ready to go.

So was Miles.

We knew it was going to be a hot day, but it exceeded my expectations. Carson managed, but by the middle of the 3rd game he was done. You can only expect so much from a 22 month old. Darrin was nice enough to take him to the car and watch the rest of the game from there.

Carson entertained himself while I got ready for church this morning. That may not seem like a big deal, but trust me, it is noteworthy. He stands at my feet and cries for me to pick him up 95% of the time.

After church, it was time for more baseball.

And more sandbox playing for Carson. I'm not sure if I've blogged about it or not, but this has been fantastic. It's a portable sandbox in a Rubbermaid container. Other kids love it too, so they come play and it entertains Carson. We even invited a kid from the opposing team today. The more the merrier.

The Hornets took home the championship today!

Yesterday got off to a rocky start, but they pulled it together today and won when they needed to. They ended the weekend 4-1.

We are so fortunate to be part of such a nice team. The players, coaches, and parents are committed to creating a positive and productive environment. We've seen these combinations of teams over the years with the volleyball and it can be a rare thing, so we are enjoying it and treasuring what we have.
