Weekend Wrap Up

Darrin was away recruiting again this weekend. Thankfully he's home now! I feel bad for him because he always comes home to a frazzled me. The boys were pretty good, but as I told Darrin, I don't think I got more than a 5 minute span of alone time. We went to eat dinner with Stephanie on Friday night.

The boys were good and it was really nice to not have to cook.

The service was super fast. We were out of there in no time, which was nice after a long work week, but Stephanie and I didn't get to visit that long.

The boys and I made cookies when we got home. They were a good bribe for Carson because he was obsessed with them. If he started acting up, I would just tell him to stop or he wouldn't get the next cookie that I promised him. That might be a new trick when Darrin is gone.

Every night, Carson tells Darrin what he wants for breakfast. Miles used to tell him and now he's passed it on to Carson. Carson's new favorite is eggs because he likes to crack the eggs. I made some for him in the microwave and he said they weren't as good as Daddy's.

Miles had an early morning basketball game. It was the last game of the season and the boys played so well.

There were some set backs with Covid, but I'm thankful that they still got to have a season.

We are very proud of Miles for making the team and getting significant playing time.

This was our first school sport experience and it was good! We look forward hopefully to many more seasons to come.

I had Miles write his coaches notes to thank them for their time this season. He wrote things like "thank you for coaching me", "thank you for giving me and opportunity" and "you are a basketball genius". I was proud of his notes. His coaches put in a lot of time and we are thankful!

Carson was happy to see one of his daycare friends at the game.

After the game, we stopped by my mom's house to see her fireplace. She recently got it working. It's so pretty and the boys loved seeing it.

We didn't stay long because I felt like I hadn't been home all week, but it's so nice to be able to stop by for a quick visit.

I did laundry and cleaned out random drawers and closets on Saturday, among other things. Carson "helped" all.day.long.

It was a cold, rainy day and we had nothing else to do, so I let him help even though everything took twice as long.

Miles and I cleaned out his baseball stuff to get ready for the upcoming season. It's only 20 days away. We've payed the dues, bought new cleats, bought a new baseball bag, and I got a new "mom" baseball bag. I think we are ready to go. I am looking forward to hanging out with my friends and watching the boys play.

We went to church this morning and then I taught Miles to make grilled cheese sandwiches. He's knows how to do a lot, but we've not working on cooking. He was excited to learn.

It was a long weekend with Darrin gone. I enjoyed being home, especially with how cold it was, but I haven't had any "me" time and I really need that to recharge for the work week. My plan is to get everyone to sleep in this house and stay up late watching TV. I just can't go back to work until I've chilled a little. Darrin starts their abbreviated season tomorrow, so it's about to get even busier!

A Game for Each Kid

We played two games tonight. First, Miles had an away basketball game.

Most of the games they have played this year have been against sixth graders since most middle schools start at sixth grade.

It was nice to finally play against a fifth grade team that was more evenly matched to us.

It came down to the very end.

Unfortunately, we lost 14-11. Miles and his teammates were crushed since they've only won one game this year and this is the last week of games.

They played against one of their travel baseball teammates. I was able to get this pic when Miles was guarding him.

These boys are about to start their fifth year of travel baseball together. At lot of the basketball teams that we play against are boys that play travel basketball. I told Miles that if we practiced basketball like we do baseball, it would be a much different story.

I snapped a pic of Miles and his 'friend' Annelise, after the game. They have been good friends since first grade.

When we got home, it was time for Carson's game. He has been super into games lately, so we agreed to play Sorry before bed.

Miles didn't want to play, but we reminded him that sometimes you do things for other people even when you don't want to and that Carson had gone to his game and behaved really well.

In the end, both boys went to bed upset because they were exhausted and past the point of reason. Better luck tomorrow!

Weekend Wrap Up

An eye doctor appointment kicked off the weekend. Miles thought he might be struggling to see the board at school. Thankfully, he's still 20/20. She said it might be the fact that he's growing and his eyes are adjusting. We measured him the other day and he's grown an inch. It's easy for me to spot when he's grown because he's so close to my height. He's only 1.5 inches away from me now.

We went to a new eye doctor and she was very nice and thorough. They dilated his eyes, which he did not enjoy! Darrin took him to the appointment before he headed out of town to recruit. Darrin is the best about appointments. Due to his flexible schedule, he carries more than his share of doctors appointments, dentist appointments, hair cuts, etc.

When Darrin is out of town, the boys sleep with me. Since Miles and I both like our own space, and the boys are getting bigger, we decided to set the cot up for Miles to sleep on. Carson slept with me. It was the perfect arrangement. Carson did climb on the cot to snuggle with Miles in the morning.

Miles was putting off teenager vibes on Saturday morning.

Miles had a birthday party for a friend at the same video game place that he had his party at last year. It's a BIG hit with the boys.

From the party, it was straight to a 2.5 hour baseball practice. I got to practice with 30 minutes left and it was cooooold! I wanted to wait in the car, but Carson vetoed that.

I bought Carson a set of new snack cups at Hobby Lobby. They were $2.50. I'm not sure why we spend so much money on toys because he has been overjoyed about these snack cups. They were the first thing that he showed Darrin when he got home today.

It's always a win when getting ready for church is uneventful. I told him he could not watch TV before church and that made all the difference. After getting ready, he played quietly until it was time to leave.

Carson was so excited when Darrin got home. He was screaming, "I missed you daddy!"

Miles had another birthday party today. This one was at Discovery Park. He had a great time. The birthday boy's parents treated them to such a fun time and even bought them all souvenirs.

Miles took $20 of his own money and bought two stuffed animals for Carson. He didn't factor in the tax and the mom stepped in to cover him. So nice! Carson was happy with them, but still has a lot to learn about thankfulness and appreciation. This hug was only after we told him too.

Tonight was a Mexican take-out kind of night while we watched football.

It's been a long weekend. Lots of running around, managing tears and meltdowns, and just mommin in general. Time for a hot bath and then bed time for these kids.
