1 Month Dr's Appointment

Today was Miles' 1 month doctor's appointment. He weighed 10 lb 12 oz. We knew he had grown, but I guessed he was just under 10 lbs. Dr. Bates said it was a classic case of Chunky Monkey syndrome! I asked if that was too much weight too quickly....he said that it was just a sign of good parenting! Love that answer. Since his last visit 3 weeks ago, he has gone from the 16th percentile to the 70th percentile regarding weight! He has grown an inch and a half since he was born. He's up to 22 1/2". All of the regular nurses were out so we have to go back next week for his first vaccination.

If you live around here and are in need of a pediatrician, Dr. Bates is wonderful. He is very informative. For me, he's the perfect balance of concern, but not over reactive. And, he does not believe in over medicating, which is very important to me.

Mack & Miles

As you know, Darrin & I were very worried how our dogs were going to react when we brought a baby home. Not so much Mack, mostly Bobo. Bobo has never liked kids. To our surprise, neither of them seemed to even notice Miles for the first several days. We think that is mainly b/c Miles rarely cries. However, even when he does cry they both seem unfazed.

In the last two weeks, I have noticed Mack becoming more interested in Miles. He lays right next to him whenever possible. The other night Mack got up when I was feeding Miles. He could hear him grunting, and quickly ran into his room to look for him. I think they are going to be big buddies as Miles grows up. As for Bobo, we hope he continues to be disinterested.

I was about to publish this and decided it needed a disclaimer. Even though Miles is laying on the couch, in the same position, in 3 out of 4 pictures.....I promise I don't leave him there all day!

Firsts

Miles first volleyball game was yesterday. He slept during the entire game. Unfortunately Daddy's team lost to Morehead, but it was a great game and the girls played well.

Today was Miles first trip to church. He slept through it also.

Guess Who's a Big Boy?

Not only is he growing like a weed, but he's also sleeping in his own bed! We moved him from the pack & play in our room to his crib a couple nights ago. No one was getting any sleep, Miles included. Now that he's in his own room we don't hear every grunt and he's able to get himself back to sleep.

Miles' favorite place to be....Daddy's chest.

....and Darrin accuses me of spoiling him.

The new formula is working. I was about to give up but after a week he seems to have adjusted. He has gotten into a good routine of eating and sleeping. He eats every 3 hours, like clock work. He's also started to stay awake a little more during the day.

I really am amazed how easy it has been to adjust to a new baby. I don't get the 8 hours sleep I used to get, but I've resorted to a steady intake of Mountain Dew which does the trick. Obviously I don't have anything to compare Miles to, but I think we've been extremely blessed with a "good" baby. We still have a lot to learn about his personality but so far he's laid back and very patient. We have no idea where he gets those traits from!

Today is a GREAT day...

Fantasy Teams have been chosen...

The flag is out...

We are dressed & ready....Miles has on a Titans' onesie - courtesy of my good friend, Melanie. It's kind of hard to see b/c he wasn't really cooperating.

Go Titans!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(sound effect) Imagine a record scratch and the music stops....
Who invited the Steelers' fan??? Kidding. Darrin's assistant coach, Kristi is from Pennsylvania & is rightfully a huge Steelers' fan. We love her anyway.

First Bath

Miles had his first bath tonight. He's just been having sponge baths while we were waiting for his cord to fall off. He didn't enjoy the sponge baths b/c he stayed cold the whole time. As you can see from the pictures, he seemed to like the real bath.

Just chillin....

While Darrin was taking the following picture & I was busy trying to get the hood on his head, Miles decided he needed to pee. Neither of us noticed the stream going all over the kitchen floor b/c we were so preoccupied with the picture taking. Too bad we didn't capture that shot...

Here's a few other random shots...

Mack has become quite protective of Miles. He always lays right next to him.

A friend asked me when I started this blog if I thought I would have time to continue it after he was born.....it is definitely challenging to find the time. There is always something to be done, and I try to rest occasionally when he naps. I'll try to update weekly...at least post new pictures even if there isn't much commentary.

We had to change formula a couple days ago. I have a terrible stomach and am lactose intolerant. Unfortunately, I'm afraid Miles might have inherited this from me. Hopefully he will outgrow it. Changing formula has helped but there continues to be an adjustment period. I'm optimistic that his stomach will settle down in the next couple of days, which will result in more restful naps during the day and sleep at night.

I am still recovering from the c-section, but feel great. It feels sooooooooo good to not be pregnant any more. As most of you know I was not a fan of pregnancy. As much as I complained (daily) about being pregnant, I've already forgotten how bad it was. Someone told me that after the baby got here that I would look back on pregnancy as just a short time in my life, and they were absolutely correct. When I was pregnant it seemed like years, but now I don't even think about it. That being said, it will take a lot longer to forgot how bad labor was :) At least next time I can just schedule my c-section. That's the only reason Miles might actually have a sibling.

Random thought...after deciding not to find out if the baby was a boy or girl, I said many times that I would stick with it this time but probably wouldn't do it again. Wrong. The surprise was incredible, and I would absolutely do it again. I can't think of anything that compares with that moment.

So far adapting to a new baby hasn't been as hard as everyone said. Yes, Miles has changed our lives completely. However, the changes have seemingly come very easy for both of us. We had 8 years to ourselves, and we enjoyed them immensely. Miles is just the next chapter, and we love it.
