Less Words Wednesday

Multiple dress up days today...Sports Day at school & Superhero Night at church.  Miles has been calling himself the superhero-football player-ninja all week....even though there wasn't a ninja involved at all today.

Football player by day....

Lightening Thunder by night...b/c his cape has a lightening bolt on the back....

Bible Story

Miles & I read his Bible Storybook every night as part of his bedtime routine.

It's amazing what he remembers. The other night he was helping me cook dinner & I told him he was a good helper. He said, "Like that boy in the Bible, Jacob?" He remembered from the story that Jacob liked to help Rebekah cook, while Esau hunted.

Last night, we read the story about Jesus calling the Disciples, but the book called them helpers.

After I got about half way into the story, Miles said, "Oh, I know who they are....the Recycles." A little off, but I was still impressed :)

Weekend Wrap Up

We had a busy weekend, as usual, but it was fun.  Friday night we celebrated my mom's birthday.  Her birthday was actually last week, but she's been in Florida for a while, so it was our first opportunity to celebrate.

Marmee with her present...

...and anytime Marmee goes out of town, Miles gets a present too...

Happy Birthday, Marmee!  We sure do love you.  We had to pretend to blow out candles since I couldn't find any...

Saturday morning, we went to the Lowe's Build & Grow workshop.  Darrin's sister tipped us off that it was fun, and it totally lived up.  It was just a quick, little project for him to complete.  They actually built a Claw Game.

Each kid is given goggles and an apron.  They were out of aprons, so hopefully he'll be able to get one next time.  The kids earn patches for every project they complete.  Very well done by Lowes.  It's all totally free, which makes it even better.

Miles loved it. They do it every other week.  We will definitely be back.  His claw game & certificate...

On Saturday afternoon, we went to the UTM basketball games. Miles was a little difficult during the games.  I think he was hot, hungry, and tired.  It was a bad combination.  We lasted until half time of the men's game & then it was time to go.  Colt, Miles, and Marissa...

We ran into some volleyball players on the way out....Madison, Michelle, and Colleen.  He was completely happy then.  I asked them where they were an hour ago???

On the way home, we decided to stop and eat at the Opera House, which is a nice restaurant in Martin.  We usually reserve it for special occasions, but since we had nothing to eat at home, and had a gift card, we just decided to go.  We've been wanting to take Miles anyway.  He's so much fun to take to places like this, b/c he eats like an adult. No kids menu for Miles...he had salmon & chose a salad for his side item.

I don't mind ordering an adult entree for him, b/c he always eats as much, if not more, than I do.  He tends to eat adult food better than kids food anyway.

Last night, all three of us were asleep by 8pm.  Unfortunately, I woke up around 11:30pm and proceeded to toss & turn all night long.  Darrin's been working today and I've had a productive day at home.  Miles got to play outside for a little while today too.  Now, I am just trying to make it until it's time for Miles to go to bed.  Yawn......

Sleepy

So...I've been up since 3am...b/c who knows why.  Darrin has been out of town since Friday.  I have slept fine while he's been gone, but maybe enough is enough, and I'm just ready for him to be home.  After I woke up, I was a little freaked out.  I'm not scared to stay by myself, but my mind wanders illogically at 3am.

I also did a class at the gym yesterday that really exhausted me.  Working out is great for Lyme disease, but there's a limit.  For me, I don't usually know the limit until after I've crossed it and the damage is done.  It sounds like a whiny excuse, but you really can do too much & then you pay for it.  I was uncomfortable during the night and today I'm just plain sore.

Or maybe it was b/c I had this little wiggle worm next to me...

He sleeps with me when Darrin is out of town.  He fidgeted more than usual last night.  I turned the fan on high and that seems to settle him a little.  He's so hot natured, especially when he's sleeping.

So, from 3-4am, I perused Facebook & Pinterest.  The problem with this is that once you've "caught up", no one is adding new posts or pins at this time of the night.  I did see a few new pins from a friend that is a new mom :)  From 4-4:15am, I tried to go back to sleep.  No luck.  Finally, at 4:15am I decided to get up and take a bath.  I usually take showers in the morning, but since I had the time, I decided to just take a bath, b/c I love, love, love taking baths.  After my bath, I dried my hair and crawled back into bed for 45 minutes before I had to get up and really get ready.  I made the mistake of looking at Facebook again and got all fired up about a post that a local TV station posted about new legislation for spanking children.  The legislation didn't really bother me, especially since it will never pass, it was all the ridiculous comments that people were leaving about how that's what's wrong with youth today.  As if nothing else has changed in the last 20 years, regarding children & society. Don't get me going again...

I started getting tired late this afternoon & now I'm pretty much done.  After reading this snoozefest of a post, I bet your tired too.  I'm questioning in my head if I should actually publish this.  Thankfully, Darrin is almost home & Miles will be back to his own bed tonight.  I'm hoping for lots of zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.

Weekend Wrap Up

It's the end of my weekend, since I had off today thanks to Presidents' Day.  We have had a pretty chill weekend.  We've been to the gym for 3 days in a row...

We went to a Valentine's dinner at Darrin's parent's church...

...where Miles ate the biggest piece of chocolate cake that has probably ever been consumed by a 4 year old...and in record time, I might add...

He got to hang out with his great Uncle Ronnie & Aunt Virginia...

...and his Uncle Steve & Aunt Crystal...

Darrin's parents called after we got home to say that Miles had won the door prize.  He was the only child there, so it was very fitting that he won.  And, no one loves a stuffed animal more than he does.  He named him Rowan Hearts McClure.  Darrin's brother & his wife are expecting a little boy this summer & his name will be Rowan.  Miles is just a little excited to have a boy cousin.

Today, we went to my office for a little while b/c I needed to get out of the house.  Miles worked on projects and said he was happy to get to stay a while.  Usually, he just stops by for quick visits with Darrin.

This afternoon, we played with his castle, in his closet, which is one of his favorite things to do...

Now, he's asking to go to bed even though it's 6:55pm.  Who am I to argue?  Especially since the Bachelor comes on tonight.  Win, win.  Good night.

Happy Valentine's Day

We celebrated at home last night with gifts for Darrin & Miles.  They each got a basket of goodies.   Darrin got golf balls, coffee for his Keurig, a grill basket, and some random items.  Miles got a book, some underwear, fruit rope, and a few special Dollar Tree items, b/c that's really the way to his heart.  I got some homemade chocolate & flowers today, but don't have any pictures to show for it.

My little Valentine early this morning before we left for school...

So happy to go to school for his Valentine party with his new haircut...

I had Valentine goodies waiting for me at work from the best boss ever...

After work & daycare, I had a date with Miles and his friend, Thomas.  They were SO excited...

They were very cheap dates at Taco Bell....two cheese roll ups each...

Then, we went to see the Lego movie.  We sat in the very top row.

They are good movies buddies b/c both of them were glued to it the whole time.

Now, we're home and he's going through his loot...

I'm looking forward to spending the rest of my Valentine's Day watching some HGTV in my nice, warm bed.  Happy Valentine's Day everyone.  Hope your day was great.

Mohawk

So.....it's been established that Miles despises haircuts.  He's scared of them, he doesn't like the cape, he won't sit by himself, he hates the hair falling on him, and the clippers are 100% out of the question.  All that, until today.  Last week, he had a chunk of hair sticking out on the side of his head that he did not like at all.  I explained that if he would let Ms. Krissy use the clippers, he wouldn't have that.  That conversation lead to him letting me trim the side of his hair with Darrin's electric razor...and then the back of his neck.  He immediately gave me the biggest hug and said, "You were right, it doesn't hurt."  He was so happy to have conquered his fear of the clippers.

A few days later, he announced that he wanted a mohawk...and has since confirmed this multiple times.  I was actually thrilled that my shy, reserved child wanted to try something different.  I thought it would be a great lesson for him to try something new and learn that it wouldn't kill him.  I pinned several pictures on Pinterest and this is what he chose.  Today was hair cut day.  He went to sleep excited and woke up just the same.  I wondered all day at work if he would go through with it.

He walked in confidently and gave the printed picture of what he wanted to Ms. Krissy.  Then, he climbed up in the chair to get started.  Before...

He sat by himself in the chair and let her cut it.  No whining or tears.  He wouldn't allow the cape, but that's no big deal. He was actually sitting with his hands folded.  I've seriously waited for this day.

The faux hawk is coming together....you didn't think I would allow a true mohawk, did you??

He is so proud of his new cut.  We went straight to Darrin's practice to show him.  I usually have to drag him into the gym b/c he's so shy around the girls, but he ran in today.  We might have to wake up 15 minutes early in the mornings to fix it, but it is so worth it to see his confidence grow a little.
