Carson had a good day yesterday. He was living his best life at the daycare petting zoo.
He said, "I see animals at school."
His favorite part appeared to be riding the horse.
Up close and personal...
A friend that teaches at the daycare sent this pic and said, "get that baby a camel" I died.
In the midst of Carson's good day, Miles was having a bad day. I was driving from one office to another for work and saw that I got a text message from the school nurse. I asked Siri to read my latest text message. The nurse had sent me two texts, but since I said to read the new message, it only read the second text which said, "he's fine except his teeth". I about drove off the road hearing that message. Turns out he got hit in the face by a soccer ball at recess. When I said, "I didn't think you played soccer at recess" he said, "I wasn't. I was playing football." So apparently he wasn't expecting it and the ball caught his teeth just right.
I made a dentist appointment and took him in yesterday afternoon. His dentist office is the coolest and they are so nice.
Even though he was very nervous, he tried very hard to be cooperative. In the end, he couldn't relax enough to keep his mouth open and his tongue out of the way. We decided to come back another day for sedation. Fixing the teeth would only take 10 minutes, but he was way too nervous yesterday to make it happen.
Luckily for us, they had a cancellation and we were able to make an appointment for 10:15am today. The soonest appointment after today was in June. No thank you. He was so nervous last night even though I assured him that it wouldn't hurt. He was very concerned about not eating or drinking after midnight. And when I say concerned, I mean freaking out. He asked me to wake him up at 11pm to eat something. Again, no thank you. I'm happy to report that the sedation worked just fine :)
It was quite a process but they got it done with no trouble. Miles was perfect. They complimented him on his cooperation and manners.
He is very pleased with his new teeth. You can't tell at all and they probably look better than they did before b/c they are so perfect. They are supposed to last 2-5 years depending on how rough he is with them, but some people have said they can last much longer. He wasn't able to go back to school today, so he and Darrin went to see the new Avengers movie.
I got to thinking about all the injuries these boys, mainly Miles, have put us through...and Miles isn't even a rowdy kid. He had the terrible black eye.
The broken arm.
The line drive to the head which thankfully turned out to be fine.
The smashed pinky nail, which has since fallen off.
And here is one of many scrapped faces as he was learning to walk.
Carson has only contributed one injury to date, but it was a doozy.
I must say that the two worst injuries to deal with were the pinky nail and Carson's face. Miles' nail was extremely painful in the moment, but okay in the days to follow. I think it was hard too b/c Darrin wasn't there. Getting Carson's cut fixed was awful. Boys will be boys. As I told someone today, I'm just glad that they are active. I have to remind myself often, but boys aren't meant to sit still and be quiet.
13 things from our weekend.
1) The car ride to school on Friday. Carson loves sitting in the middle of Darrin's truck so he can see out.
2) Friday night we attended the Top Dawg Awards at Darrin's school. It was the first ever athletic banquet of this type and it was excellent. The best part was a video of the athletes imitating their coaches. Lots of laughs were had.
3) You know when you find the perfect outfit to wear...you can't wait...and then it doesn't look as you imagined it would? Yeah, that's what happened to me. It was fine, but I didn't love it like I thought I would. On the upside, I got it on Amazon for cheap. It was easy to wear and comfortable. The length was just weird for me.
4) Miles played baseball on a field that could be seen from this playground. That was a plus. Carson had so much fun.
5) Miles played three games on Saturday. Carson went to two and did pretty well.
6) I wish he liked watching Miles, but he doesn't care yet. I thought this picture was cute b/c that is Miles on third. During the second game, Miles was catching and when he went back to get the ball by the back stop, Carson yelled, "Hey Bubba!" really loudly :) Miles looked at him and smiled. He loved it.
7) On Sunday, I decided to stay home with Carson so he could nap. For the first time ever, he protested a nap and climbed out of his crib instead. I didn't try again, so I don't know what will happen next time. We are probably getting close to needing to switch him to a regular bed.
8) Two minutes before this picture he told me he wasn't tired.
9) Carson loves to go to church. He calls is "chuch". He says, "We go to chuch, momma?"
10) While he protested his nap on Sunday, we played on the kitchen floor where the sun was coming through the door. It was warm and the sunshine was good for us.
11) Poor Miles is cold natured like me. I sat out on the patio for a couple hours while Darrin and Carson messed around outside. Miles said he was too tired. He's been really tired lately, to the point that I'm a little concerned. I'm considering taking him to the doctor for some lab work, just to see if he is deficient in something. I've had his iron checked before b/c of the fatigue and always being cold, but it wasn't low. Might be time to check again....those are flannel pjs on a warm sunny day. He even went out to the garden like that.
12) The boys tended to the garden. We already have some small growth. Darrin has done a great job on the garden this year. It's so neat and well planned.
13) The Hornets finished the weekend 2-2, which isn't bad considering they were a 9 & Under team playing in a 10 & Under tournament. From what we saw this weekend, there is a noticeable size difference between 9 & 10, so we are excited to see our boys grow and get stronger.
It seems like a busy weekend, but we had a good amount of rest on Sunday. I forced myself to chill most of the afternoon even though finding something productive to do is always tempting. I am trying to teach myself to enjoy some downtime. Yesterday was a good start.
Summer is our favorite time of year around here. We love warmer weather and the chance to be outside as much as possible.
We actually like it hot, but these last few days have been really pretty.
I took off three days last week. We did something that we never do...we let Miles skip school. Our intention was to plant the garden, but it turned out to be bad timing with the weather so we worked on other things. After the disappointment of not being able to plant the garden wore off, Miles helped me clean the porch. We had to sweep and wipe off all the shutters and furniture.
We also trimmed all the bushes and planted a few new things where we had some gaps. I added these azaleas. They provide so much color from the road. They bloom in spring, summer, and fall, and the leaves stay green during the winter. I have high hopes for them! We also put down a truckload of mulch.
Darrin said Miles gets to learn to mow some this year on the flat areas. He already knows how to park the mower in the garage which is very good considering it's a zero turn mower.
Carson likes to "help" too.
When he's not helping, he just loves to be outside while we work. I moved his sand box to the back patio so he could play while I cooked dinner. Tonight, I raised the window so I could hear him and he entertained himself for a little while. It was so nice.
He got some chalk paint for Easter and played with those on Saturday. I think Miles and I liked it more than he did.
We also cleaned out our shop and garage. It seems like everything piles up during the winter and gets very dusty. Something about a clean shop and garage makes me very happy.
Darrin and Miles have done a great job on the garden. Last year was our first year to have a garden and we all loved it. Darrin enjoyed researching, planning, and seeing it grow. Miles loved picking the vegetables everyday. I loved being able to cook fresh vegetables.
We expanded it to almost twice the size this year. We added several new things such as corn, peppers, green beans, strawberries, and green onions. Darrin and Miles got very fancy and buried the hose that leads to the sprinkler system. It's quite impressive. Miles spent time this afternoon adding some pavers for a walkway.
It's been a productive week. We have never accomplished this much by this time in the spring. I'm so excited that all the really hard work is finished. Now, we can just maintain and enjoy everything all summer long.
Happy Easter from our family to yours! Picture overload coming your way. We gave the boys their Easter baskets yesterday since Sunday morning is always hectic. I think that will be a new tradition. They were able to play with their stuff all day and didn't have to rush.
A new Beyblade was the highlight of Miles' basket.
Carson was very excited about a truck for his cars and some Paw Patrol paint. Miles has always been reserved with his enthusiasm. We have had to learn not to expect a reaction from him and just know that he loves whatever we give him regardless of how it appears. Carson, on the other hand, said "thank you momma" at least 10 times without being prompted.
The boys snuggled in our bed for a half of second this morning before Carson felt smothered and had to be free.
After getting ready for church, we tried some family pics outside.
Carson decided to dance and run around instead. It's a shame he doesn't enjoy life more.
We, and by we I mean Darrin, instantly waved the white flag and we headed to church. We decided to go to church with Darrin's parents. We never have the opportunity and I am so glad we did. It was very nice to be with them this morning.
We always spend Easter afternoon at Crystal and Steve's house. It was a beautiful day to hang out with family and hunt for Easter eggs. Miles was very serious about collecting as many as possible.
Carson picked up the first egg and then twirled his basket around his arm and the egg when flying out. Then he kept trying to stomp on the eggs to open them and find out what was inside. He finally got the hang of it and filled his bucket to the top.
Carson loves his Aunt Kiss-tal...written as he says it.
Carson told Uncle Steve that he wanted to ride on the golf cart, so Steve told him to go outside and wait for him. Carson walked outside, climbed up on the golf cart, and waited patiently for Uncle Steve to come drive him around. It's amazing how compliant this child is for everyone but us.
I love this picture of Carson with two of his great aunts, Aunt Lynda and Aunt Brenda.
They love their Pa.
We took a few selfies while they were sorting through their loot. Miles was most interested in how many money eggs he found. There were quarters in several eggs. I think he ended up with $2.50, which he was excited about. As expensive as candy is, I should really consider doing that next year.
Crystal wins the photo bomb award. I had no idea she did this until I was looking through my pics on the way home.
I'm a fan of this guy.
We had such a great day minus the car ride there and back. M-I-S-E-R-A-B-L-E. He screamed, cried, and kicked the back of my seat from church all the way to Crystal's house, which was just under an hour.
This pic of Miles sums up our sentiments. It was rough.
On the way home, we may or may not have given him some melatonin, and Darrin moved his car seat to the third row so he couldn't kick my seat. Him kicking my seat on the way there just about did me in and I think Darrin went with the 'happy wife, happy life' philosophy.
We were feeling pretty good about our parenting until he woke up about 45 minutes into the 2 hour drive and started screaming again.
So, I moved to the third row and tried to console him. We ended up stopping halfway home and buying some Motrin. For whatever reason, Motrin calms both my children when they are distraught. From the minute he chewed it, he stopped crying and was fine the rest of the way home. Well, unless I looked at him and then he would try to hit me in the face. #moody
It was a beautiful day and we thoroughly enjoyed this Easter with our family.
