Cookies and TV

Just a low key night around here. I've said it before, but I actually like daylight savings time. I know I'm the only one person that feels that way, but I like that it gets dark before I get home from work b/c then we are forced to come inside early and just chill together. I think b/c there is no volleyball or baseball it feels especially low key. Everything feels slower to me. I had to make something to take to work tomorrow. We are having appetizers to celebrate Thanksgiving. I'm not sure about that logic, but I'll go with it. I made Chewy Brownie Cookies since I had all the ingredients already. Miles enjoyed the batter.

Then we watched a little TV. Carson is still obsessed with Frozen & AFV, but mostly Frozen. For the last couple of days when we have been watching Frozen he has been saying something, which I thought was "show" meaning turn on AFV. Finally tonight I realized that he wasn't saying "show". I asked Miles what he was saying and he determined that he was saying "snow". He was saying snow b/c he wanted to watch the part where they build a snowman. That is very helpful, b/c for days I have been stopping the movie and turning on the show (AFV) only to realize that wasn't what he wanted. I thought he was just being indecisive. He's talking better, but I will be so glad when he can communicate a little better. It's frustrating for him and for us.

After Cason went to bed, Miles and I watched Dancing with the Stars Juniors. Miles loves to watch any show with kids dancing. And those kids are so good!

Bedtime for me. I haven't been sleeping long enough lately. I sleep well while I'm asleep but as soon as I wake up my mind starts racing and I can't go back to sleep. So, I've only been getting 5-6 hours of sleep and it's beginning to catch up with me. Tonight is an Ambien kind of night so I can feel rested tomorrow. Good night!

Weekend Wrap Up

Our weekend started on Friday morning when Darrin & I attempted to cook a turkey for Carson's daycare program. The kids have a little program and then they serve a Thanksgiving meal. The parents sign up to bring things. By the time I got around to signing up, all that was left were turkeys. They actually provide the turkey, so we decided to give it a whirl. Look how good it looks?

Unfortunately, the thermometer must not have worked. It was not done, so we cut, cooked, cut, cooked some more...and then repeated that a couple more time. We finally cut the safe pieces off and called it a day. I'm not the best daycare mom, so this was my way of helping out. I don't do well on the fundraisers, book sales, field trips, etc. I will have to find another way to help b/c I'm signing up for a dessert next year!

Carson had to be a pumpkin in the play. As assigned, he wore orange pants and an orange shirt. Not easy to find, by the way.

He walked in like a champ...

And then sat there nicely and watched everything as the play was going on. I couldn't really see from my seat, but Darrin managed to move closer and get a few pics. The turkey debacle caused us to run late and the good seats were gone.

He was happy to see us at the end. 

A lot of the kids were crying after it was over, b/c it was a little chaotic trying to find kids and parents. Our little pumpkin was fine though.

He wanted to take a picture with his buddy, Mary Cameron. Apparently they are inseparable. Her mom and I are friends and after comparing stories, these two might be trouble one day.

We ate lunch with a family from church. She offered to take a picture of all three of us. After a couple tries, we waved the white flag.

After daycare and school, Darrin took the boys to stay with Aunt Crystal & Uncle Steve for the weekend. We hosted a Friendsgiving party on Saturday night, so we needed some help. They had so much fun at their house. Their dogs are always a big hit. 

When I asked Miles what was the best part of the weekend, I thought he might say driving the tractor, but he said playing fetch with one of the dogs. 

As usual, Carson was a perfect angel all weekend. I know it's a good thing that he knows how to act in public, but how does a two year old know how to turn it off and on like that??? As soon as we got him, he flipped a switch and cried the whole car ride home.

We appreciate Crystal & Steve watching them and taking such good care of them. It allowed us to have a really fun party. We hosted our first ever Friendsgiving. It was for the baseball parents. Our team has been together for three years and we've never done something as a group without the kids. And, we really like each other, so it was long overdue. 

We played some really fun games....

...and took a LOT of selfies :)

I plan to write a post about how I planned it and exactly what we did. It was a great night and deserves to be replicated by someone! But now, I'm going to bed. It was a late night and an early morning and I am T-I-R-E-D!

Snowvember

Checking in very quickly here, b/c my alarm will be going off in exactly 6 hours. If I stand any chance of getting up and working out, I need to get in bed ASAP. We have a super busy day and weekend ahead. More on that when I wrap up the weekend. We had our first snow. Snow in November is in keeping with crazy Tennessee weather. 

I knew they were calling for some winter weather, but I thought it might be some ice pellets. I didn't know it was going to be enough to play in. Carson couldn't wait to get outside. I bought his outfit last winter so we would be prepared. It's a 3T and he really needs a 2T. We made it work.

Miles was out of school so Darrin stayed home with him. They kept Carson home too. I went to work. The roads were completely clear today. I asked Miles tonight if Carson was fun to play with and he say "Yes!" I think he's finally getting to the age where they can interact and have fun. 

Darrin said Carson was fine until his hands got cold, which is understandable. I hadn't been able to find and gloves for him yet. I went ahead and ordered some on Amazon today so that we would be ready next time.

While the weather was still pretty last weekend, the guys got outside and worked. Darrin made a contraption to blow leaves out of the gutters. Miles was quite impressed. Darrin said it was much easier than lugging the ladder around.

This is a happy place for all three of them.

The shop is definitely another happy place. They turned on a heater and did guy things all day. 

He was so happy to be going outside. During volleyball season, I did a terrible job of taking him outside. It was just so hard to pick them up from school/daycare, get home, eat, baths, etc. Going outside was way down on the priority list.

We finished our next puzzle. We are on a roll!

Wordless Wednesday

8 Random Things

Here we go with 8 things.

1) I love this picture of Carson b/c he looks little again. When he's awake and talking he seems anything but little. By this time, Miles was already in a toddler bed. To say we learned our lesson, would be the understatement of the century. Carson might stay in a crib until kindergarten-eve. I value my sanity too much.

2) Darrin took the boys to get hair cuts this afternoon and then had to go to an FCA dinner, so he dropped them off at my office. They were WILD! Carson has never been to my office so it was new territory for him to explore. Thank goodness it was almost 5pm and I was ready to go. No work was happening.

3) Miles had a Veteran's Day program at school yesterday. This is just the 2nd & 3rd graders. Our little town is booming b/c of the good schools.

4) He's in the bottom, center of the pic. He loves any kind of program at school. He talks about them and tells me all about the songs in the weeks leading up to the program. He has a new friend, Davis, in his class this year. In the years prior, we hadn't run across him in class, church, or sports. They have become great friends and seem to be good influences on each other. Davis was one of five students chosen to read their Veteran's Day essay during the program. Miles was so proud of him and even asked him for a copy of his essay to keep with his important papers from third grade :)

5) Post volleyball season is also known as jigsaw puzzle time in our house. We finished our second puzzle last night. 500 piece puzzles are our favorite. This one was fun. Challenging but not too hard.

6) We also like to play games. Catan is currently our favorite. We tend to play a game over and over until we are completely sick of it. So far that hasn't happened with Catan. I would play a game every day if someone would play with me. Darrin probably prefers puzzles. Miles probably prefers video games {insert eyeroll}. Darrin and I had the day off yesterday, so we picked Miles up from school and came home to play a game and work the puzzle before going to get Carson. Miles won our game of Catan. He was very excited about it!

7) I snapped this picture before walking out the door for work. There has never been a more accurate depiction of our marriage. Any guesses on which side of the bed/room is mine verses Darrin's? I take a lot of medicine to be okay with this :)

8) We have finally started having to say things like "stop touching him" and "leave him alone". Surprisingly, we have to tell Miles to leave Carson alone more than the reverse. Miles knows exactly how to push Carson's buttons. In his defense, it's not exactly difficult to push Carson's buttons. He likes his space too, so when Miles gets too close or touchy feely, Carson doesn't like it. Miles is more tolerant of Carson. This is Miles irritating Carson...

Randomness is my favorite thing to blog about! I think when I look back one day, the random posts will give me the greatest memories.
