Yesterday was the first day of 7th grade for Miles and supply drop off for Carson.
Miles was really excited to go back and see all of his friends. We heard from all the teachers at open house that 7th grade is hard and even if a student has made straight A's their whole life, they will have to study to continue to make those grades. I think Miles has heard the message and is aware that this year is different. I know he can do it if he wants to, but I think he has some concerns. He's grown 5" since the start of school last year.
Carson was all smiles too.
Then, even though we had discussed his schedule repeatedly, he was very unhappy to learn that he didn't get to stay at school all day. It was only a chance to drop off supplies and talk with the teacher.
That eyebrow tho.
He saw one of his good buddies, Rhett, from daycare. Rhett's mom and I had hoped that the boys would be in the same class. All four of us were disappointed. But then we were excited to discover yesterday that they would be in after school together!
He nervously found his seat and was too shy to say anything to his teacher. I told her that this might be the quietest he will ever be. She said that usually nerves made kids very shy or very hyper.
This picture took me back to Miles' first day of school with Mrs. Penney.
After school, Miles had Meet the Hornets, which is where they call every student on every sports team at the middle school. It was a hot night but they flew through it in 45 minutes. Miles said he looked like he was praising Jesus when they called his name :)
I managed to get two pictures with friends before Darrin rounded us up to get to the car.
Carson got to go back today for his first full day. Parents are allowed to walk the kids to their class for the first week. I asked him if he wanted me to and he said, "No, I want to do it myself." We talked about where to go and what to look for. As I pulled up, I pointed to the door and told him to go in that door. I thought he could figure it out even though there are a lot of hallways. When he stepped out of the car, he looked completely turned around, but didn't seem to care. It's funny how different kids can be. Miles would have been freaked out. Thankfully, a teacher he knows walked up and pointed him in the right direction. He told me after school that once he got inside someone asked him if he needed help and then helped him get to his room. They probably thought his parents were terrible for dropping off a kindergartener. Trust me, I tried to help multiple times! I would have been happy to walk him in, but I was proud of his confidence!
His teacher posted this after school. Funny because I never would have guessed he was nervous about anything.
Parents communicate with teachers via a planner each day. This was our note today. Off to a good start!
He came running when I picked him up from after school, smiling the whole way. When we got in the car and I asked about his day, he told me it was too much to talk about and wouldn't share. I pressed for just a minute and saw it was going to be a struggle, probably because he was hangry. So, I tabled it until after dinner. After dinner, we learned....he ate during naptime (I don't know what that means), a boy pooped down his leg, he played with Rhett during recess, he ate two chicken tenders for lunch and did not like the black eyed peas, and he did not make any new friends. Overall, I'd say it was a good day. Right now, he says he wants me to walk him in on Thursday, but we'll see if he actually does. Miles had another good day too!
