Carson loves Playdoh and everything he got for Christmas has dried up. We aren't the best at cleaning it up timely. My mom got him several new colors and lots of molds and other Play-doh toys.
Miles has been shooting his bow and arrow a lot these days, but he was down to two arrows, so Marmee got him five new arrows. When he saw them, he said they were the good arrows. I was able to order everything online and do curbside pick-up for both things from Target and Dicks.
Carson immediately got to work. While he was busy working, Miles and Darrin slipped out to go fishing.
While Carson played, I was able to a little household work like pay bills, balance the checkbook, and look through mail. Yes, I still balance my checkbook to the penny. I realize it is a dying art, but I think it's blasphemy to not :) I would do it even if I didn't work at a bank.
Darrin and Miles were going to fish for a couple hours, but were having such a good time that they didn't get home until after 4pm. They ended up going to three different ponds.
I think Darrin expected me to be upset that they were gone all day, but I'm the one that encouraged them to stay as long as they wanted. Darrin has been cooped up at home with both boys for two weeks. We both have hard jobs right now, but I think his is more challenging.
Besides, Carson and I had a great day together at home. During this whole thing, I've been able to spend a lot of time with Miles at night b/c he's been getting to stay up a little later and we've been playing so many games. I feel like I haven't had as much time with Carson. It was good to soak him up for an entire day. We did lots of things that make him happy. First it was the Play-doh and then he had a Sprite and lunchable. I've talked about his love of Sprite, but he also loves lunchables, or as he calls them "one of Miles' things".
We played outside too. It was a little chilly in the morning, but then the clouds disappeared and the sun felt amazing. I was drained from the work week, but he let me sit in my zero gravity lounger while he drove around the yard. I guess he finally got bored with it, b/c he drove his gator into the shop, pull the manual garage door down by himself (it has a rope), slide the lock over, and walked out the door. It was pretty impressive that our three year old knows how to close up the shop now.
In keeping with things that make him happy, he ate a popsicle too.
After all that playing, we were both tired. He fought me for a while, but then fell asleep for a two hour nap. His naps are getting fewer and farther between. That makes me really sad, but I know that once he adjusts, it will make him much more flexible. Right now, the no nap days are still pretty rough by the time evening comes.
After everyone was asleep last night, I put together their Easter baskets. I was just about to set them on the kitchen table when I remembered that my mom used to hide our Easter baskets.
I knew the boys would love that. Sometimes I don't put forth the effort that I think I should to make happy memories. Since I knew we were missing out on going to Uncle Steve and Aunt Crystal's house for Easter, our annual tradition, I knew I needed to do a little extra at home.
They loved finding them. Miles' basket was hidden really well, so it took him a while to find it. Easter in flannel pjs, check, check.
Miles got a kite, fishing stuff, candy, and a t-shirt. Carson got a kite, puzzles, candy, and a t-shirt.
After Easter baskets, we watched church online. They did a choir song through Zoom and it was amazing. I will be happy to go back to church, hopefully one day soon, but I don't hate watching church on my couch, in my pjs.
The afternoon dragged on and on since we couldn't go outside due to thunderstorms. When the rain finally went away and the sun came out, I knew Carson needed some fresh air. We dressed him in old clothes and told him to go splash in the mud.
He was so happy to be outside exploring. He didn't stay out long, but a little time outside was just what he needed. Miles went outside too and shot his bow.
While they were outside, I decided to put in that extra effort and hide eggs.
They loved finding the eggs and told me thank you over and over.
The eggs had candy, dollars, quarters, and three coupons. The coupons were for going to a movie, game night (they pick the game), and one night where they pick what we have for dinner. The coupons were actually egg shaped and meant for Easter eggs. I bought them two years ago and forgot about them until today. Miles found all three coupons, but Carson found a little more money. Carson would probably have traded all his money for candy b/c he is the candy monster, but he didn't think to ask. Miles would have been all over that trade.
These are the t-shirts that were in their Easter baskets. They say Brother Squad. We told Carson that means they are a team. Our Easter attire looked a little different this year, but it was a good day to celebrate Jesus!
