Staying cool in the shade with popsicles.
There were many 4-wheeler rides.
We also got out the slip and slide to Darrin's dismay. He can't stand setting this kind of stuff up, but I think he would even agree that it was worth it. They played together nicely for a while.
While they played, Darrin and I sat under a tree and relaxed. I actually picked up two books I've had for a while. I'm not much of a reader, but we have a few things that we need to work on with the boys. "Raising Grateful Kids in an Entitled World" is for Miles and "Child Wise" is for Carson. The first book came highly recommended and the second book is by the writer of Babywise, so I'm anxious to read it. It is for years 3-7. Yes, please! Carson will be 3 on Friday....can you believe that???
We got a lot out of our garden over the weekend.
We are pretty proud of the garden this year. We added a lot and we already have thoughts for next year.
Miles cut the entire yard by himself. That's probably 4 acres. He was proud and we were thankful! Darrin was able to work on other projects while he was mowing.
Carson said he was mowing the grass too. He drove around while Miles was mowing.
We don't really want to get in the habit of paying Miles for his work (we do sometimes) so we decided to treat him by having a bonfire. We roasted hot dogs and smores. When I tucked him in last night, he said that was the best part of his day.
The smores may have been the best part of my day :)
The boys were so dirty when it was finally time to go inside, but I think it was a great day for them.
It's hard to tell from this picture but he had popsicle juice and ketchup all over his face and belly, and his hands and feet were caked in dirt. He still loves to be barefoot. I'm not a fan, but it's just a boy thing.
After a shower, I found him in the kitchen like this eating one last popsicle. After these popsicles are gone, we are not buying anymore. They are all he thinks about. When Miles was little, we couldn't buy gummies for the same reason. Look at that tan line.
After getting all cleaned up and dressed for bed, he decided to play with my self inking return address stamp. You can't turn your head for a second with this one.
After Carson went to bed, the three of us played a game of Catan. Miles was tired from a long, hot day, so the game ended in tears when he didn't win. He lead most of the game only for me to sneak up and win at the end. This game seems to bring out a competitive side of him. We played again today during Carson's nap and Darrin won this time. No tears this time b/c he was threatened before we got started.
Carson wore an adorable shirt to church. A friend handed it down to us. It's hard to tell but those are sunglasses with American flags.
We didn't have anything to do after Carson's nap today and the day was getting long, so I took Carson to our town's splash pad and Darrin took Carson fishing.
Carson played so nicely for 1.5 hours. It wasn't very crowded, which was really nice.
Miles and Darrin fished at two different neighbors' ponds. They caught several fish. Miles was really happy and had a great time. At dinner, he said, "Dad, I forgot to tell you thank you for taking me fishing." I think he was filled up with all the quality time he had with both of us this weekend.
It was really nice to be home all weekend. We still stayed busy. I don't think either of us knows how to relax, especially in the summer. I've been on a kick of staying up late and I think it's caught up with me a bit. It's 9:15pm and Darrin is already in bed. As soon as I finish this, I'm going to sleep too. It's birthday week for Carson!!! Yay!
