Foreshadowing

We have pictures in our kitchen of both boys on their first birthdays with their smash cakes. We laugh when we look at them b/c we had no idea how telling the pictures actually were. This is Miles, cautiously touching the cake with little emotion. It took him a long time to actually get into the cake. Once he did, he liked it, but never got carried away.

Carson, on the other hand, went all in. He had absolutely no reservations about the cake or the large crowd watching him, even though his crowd was a lot larger than the crowd at Miles' party. He played, smashed, ate, laughed, and smiled until we took the cake away.

The pictures perfectly capture their personalities even now. Cautious and inhibited verses wild and free. Both are so fun and delightful and also challenging in their own right.
