Yesterday, I was working out of town and had a very full day. Mid-day it occurred to me that I had not bought a thing for the boys for Valentine's Day. I know everyone's lives are busy, so I'm not suggesting that we are unique, but our lives feel out of control busy. It has been a little overwhelming for both of us lately, but I really don't see how things could be different. It just is what it is. We need to learn to enjoy the chaos a little more, but that is soooooo hard to do. I do much better when I plan ahead and try to stay on top of things, but that's not always possible either. Valentine's Day completely got away from me. I called Darrin and asked if he could take care of it. I gave him a few ideas and he ran with it. He bought all their favorite candy, balloons, stuffed animals, money for Miles, and even remembered gift bags. My mom had brought several things last weekend, so they had treats from her in their bags too. Carson looks like he has a lot more, but Miles has a ten dollar bill that is hard to see on the counter.
Carson gave his friends Cheetos that said, "You're all that and a bag of chips!" I wanted to make some cute printables, but handwritten at the last minute had to do.
The boys woke up to a bag full of goodies. Carson immediately started eating chocolate. I'm pretty sure he had enough chocolate for a whole day before he even got to school. He was squeezing it so tightly that you couldn't pry it out of his little hands. Side note- we are pretty sure that chocolate keeps him awake at night if he eats it too close to bedtime. As I've mentioned, he sleeps so well, but he has random nights were he is wide awake all night. We narrowed it down the last two times he was awake and we feel pretty certain that he's very sensitive to the caffeine in chocolate. I am so glad that this mystery is solved, b/c these nights with him have been brutal.
I had no idea what to do for Carson's Valentine box. Just as I forgot to buy things for the boys, I forgot to buy any supplies for a box. I starting looking around the house after 10pm last night. I couldn't think of anything. I finally wrapped a shoe box in brown paper and then starred at it blankly for a while. Somehow this idea came to me and it was done in no time.
I'm proud to say that I didn't even see it on Pinterest. It was all my creation! When I thought about a theme that Carson would like I came up with Paw Patrol, Tangled, lawnmowers, M&Ms, and cars. Those seem to be his favorite things. I was glad that the cars worked out b/c he loves playing with cars.
Finally at 11:35pm we were ready for Valentine's Day. Miles gave his friends Skittles, which I actually did purchase way in advance. I saw them at Target one day and got them b/c he loves Skittles, they were easy, cheap, and Miles doesn't care about stuff like this at all. As I expected, he was fine with it.
Apparently Carson approved of his box too. I thought he would try to pull the cars off, but they were hot glued on there pretty securely. I put the box away when we got home hoping he'll want to use it again next year. One can only hope.
Carson and his friends partied hard today. Those poor girls are so outnumbered.
The teachers took pictures of the kids putting their Valentine's in their friends' boxes. Seems like he understood the concept. I saw a picture of another boy putting his Valentine in Carson's box and he was trying to play with one of the cars :)
Darrin and I went to lunch together today, which was a nice day date for Valentine's Day. We ended the night with basketball practice and Little Caesar's Pizza.
And now I'm left with this thought, which is what happens everyday.
