Weekend Wrap Up

After this first picture, which was at work on Friday celebrating National Fun Day at Work day, these pictures leave a lot to be desired. I guess they are representative of our very chill weekend.

Miles went on a church retreat. I picked him and a friend up from practice in a hurry to get to the drop off before the buses pulled out. We stopped at Marmee's house for the boys to take quick showers since it was on the way.

Miles sent a few pictures while he was gone. I told Darrin that they remind me of the pictures that Darrin takes for me when I tell him I need pictures for the blog.

We were home all weekend since Carson was sick. I stayed up until 1am on Friday night finishing my book. Running Wild is now in my top 5 books. I loved the whole series so much, but the 4th book was by far my favorite. Very slow start, but it makes me want to reread the second half again already.

I tackled a big project....washing Miles' catchers' gear. It was a big job that we should have done a lot sooner. You don't know what you don't know and I didn't know how to take care of catchers' gear. I know now not to let it get so bad.

As I said, the pictures in this post are boring, but I had to share the end result.

Carson felt better Saturday, but his throat still hurt. Today, he seems all better and was eating again.

Our dryer quit working yesterday, for the second time since we've had it, which is exactly why I put off buying a new one for so long. Why are new washers and dryers so poorly made these days? After a bunch of YouTube videos, a trip to the store, and several hours of work, Darrin determined the problem and ordered a part. The whole project cost $200, but it still has to be faster and cheaper than a service call. We are just hoping everything goes smoothly when the part comes in on Tuesday.

Carson wasn't happy that there wasn't much for him to help with. He finally got to help hold the flashlight and all was right in his world.

Miles' travel team had practice today and it was so good to see everyone. Their first tournament is in two weeks. There is a possibility of snow and ice this week. Maybe all this cold weather will get out of here after this week.

Darrin and I have watched football this afternoon while the boys spent time in there spaces.

Even though we had a good amount of downtime this weekend, I am not ready to go back to work tomorrow. Ready or not!

Sick & A Big Change

Poor Carson is sick again. I really don't think he ever got over being sick a month ago. We sent him to school this morning because he didn't have a fever, but they called around 1pm and said he had a fever and hurt all over. It wasn't long until he was asleep on the couch.

Darrin picked him up from school because he was at home working this afternoon. I came home at 2:30pm so Darrin could go to a dentist appointment. Carson felt terrible, but insisted on playing a game. He said it's the sickest he's ever felt. He was so pitiful that I had to make a lot of his moves for him. He bounced back a little after some medicine, but was pretty puny just before bed. Darrin is taking him to the doctor tomorrow, so we'll see what happens.

A couple random thoughts before I go. I'm on book four of the Simple Wild series. This book was a slow start for me, but it might end of being my favorite in the series. I just discovered that it is the last in the series and I'm pretty sad about it.

In other news...I changed from a paper planner to an app this year. This is major news! I have used my Outlook calendar and task list at work for 10+ years, but I have still been using a paper planner for our home and personal things. I changed to the Calendo app. It's really simple...I'm sure there are better options out there. I like that I can set reoccurring tasks up like "Dinner for tomorrow" which just means to set something out for the next night. I also like that they stay on there until I mark them complete, even if it's a day late. I don't write as many things as I did in my paper planner, but I'm glad about that. I just do the big things and try to have more down time, especially on weeknights after a full day of work. I have loved this change.

Just a quick update and now back to my book!

Less Words Wednesday

Started the morning with Carson reenacting a scene from Indiana Jones.

Miles is working hard to get ready for baseball. He has put in a lot of work in the off season and I'm ready to see how he does.

After setting up the next desk area in our room, we moved the old desk to Miles' closet. I have a strange attachment to this desk because I bought it for my first house before Darrin and I were even dating. I am very rarely sentimental about things, but I am about this desk. I intended for Miles to use it to put stuff on, but he set it up like a legit desk and has already used it.

Still not too old or big to get a hug from dad.

Ended the day with Carson saying he didn't feel good on the way home from church and him falling asleep before we got out of the parking lot. He was not a happy camper when I woke him up to go inside. I really, really hope he feels better when he wakes up.

Weekend Wrap Up

I didn't take very many pictures over the weekend. Marmee and Granny & Pa came for dinner on Friday night. We had fun playing Skyjo and I forgot to take any pictures.

Carson wore his shirt proudly for the 100th day of school. He used to be so difficult when it came to anything out of the norm, but thankfully, he has outgrown that. On a side note, we have figured out what motivates Carson...dollars, as he calls them. We've been giving him a dollar a day to keep his room clean and it's working. We did this for Miles when he was in kindergarten and it was effective for him too.

Darrin and I were sitting next to each other on the couch watching football today and Miles came and sat right next to us. We don't get as much time with him now that he's growing up, but we enjoy hanging out with him when we can.

Then, he shocked us by reading. He got a book in his Christmas box with a note that said it was for his next book report.

Carson played games all weekend with anyone that would play with him. He is becoming a master at Mancala.

He still needs to work on his Golf strategy, but he's getting better.

I went to Black Tie & Boxing on Saturday with a good friend from work. We knew someone fighting and wanted to go support him. Such a fun night.

Carson is still rocking some 3T shorts. I guess he fits in with the teenage boys who are wearing short shorts these days.

We put together a new workspace in our bedroom this weekend. Sadly, this is the before, minus the monitors. I just came into these monitors and that's what prompted the redo. Darrin works at home some amount of time everyday, some more than others, but he really needed something more functional. I will be happy to have a nice space too on the days I work from home.

My mom had this desk/table and wasn't using it, so she gave it to us. It is perfect, and exactly what we needed. We are so thankful to have been given the monitors and the desk.

Our bedroom is really the only place in the house that we can fit a workspace like this. I'm sure a lot of people wouldn't love a desk in their bedroom, but our bedroom is spacious and the desk is tucked in the corner. I don't mind it and Darrin doesn't mind working in there.

The weekends go by too quickly, but it's been a nice one with some fun with friends and family, some downtime, and lots of football.

Weekend Wrap Up

We enjoyed a long weekend. Darrin had to work today, but the boys and I had off. We hung out at home on this rainy day. Carson and I made a shirt for the 100th day of school. We hot glued Legos with 100 dots to a shirt we already had (that was Miles'). Didn't spend a dime and we are ahead of schedule since he doesn't have to wear until Wednesday. That is winning!

Carson spent Friday night with Marmee. As soon as I turned on her street, he said, "Okay mom, goodbye" which meant that he wanted me to drop him off and leave. When I questioned him about it, he said, "I just want to enjoy my time." Before I could even get out the door, he had changed into his comfy clothes and was eating a snack. He was happy, happy.

He spent a lot of his weekend in front of the heater watching TV.

Miles helped make lasagna on Sunday.

Marmee came over for dinner and football.

Carson learned to tie his shoes! He came home from afterschool and said one of his teachers taught him and another boy. I can't tell you how nice that was for that teacher to take on something she didn't have to do, because sometimes we just don't feel like there are enough hours in the day to get everything done.

I ordered these headbands and they've bought me another day without washing my hair. They kind of squeeze my head off, but I'm trying to get used to them because they are easy and I like them.

Darrin and Carson threw a baseball for five minutes before there were tears. I remember these days with Miles.

If you aren't using parchment paper in your air fryer basket, you are missing out. It saves so much cleaning. Also, cooking chicken in the air fryer is a game changer.

Miles is going to be a coach one day, no doubt. He was drawing up football plays during the game last night.

Carson enjoyed some sunshine. He's still loving his 4-wheeler. Buying it over a gas operating one was absolutely the right move.

Miles' travel team started practice. I don't know who was happier, Miles or me. I was giddy waving at my friends as we were dropping the boys off. I love these people.

Carson is starting to learn more chores and earn some allowance. He's happy to earn some "dollars". I'm happy that he's showing some ability and interest to learn which has been questionable.

I finished my second book of the year already and it was a good one. It is a series, so I'm on to the next one, Wild at Heart.

Miles celebrated his buddy, Brady's birthday. These boys played football at the park and had a great time.

Carson is getting better at playing games. He beat me at Golf today and beat Miles at Connect Four several times.

We are ready to get our four day week started and get back to another weekend. We live for the weekends around here!

Weekend Wrap Up

Carson stayed fever free on Wednesday and was so excited to go back to school on Thursday. I love to watch him walk down the hall when I pick him up from afterschool. He just walks casually, swinging his jacket, checking out the gym...the vending machines...and anyone that might walk by. Zero sense of urgency is how he rolls. He's a 'smell the flowers' kind of kid.

Friday night, I was about to go to my room to read and Miles asked me if I would read in his room while he played. I do that every now and then when I don't want to be stuck in my room and it's a bonus that his bed is so comfortable. I know that he won't want me around for much longer, so I was happy to hang out with him, even if that just meant near him.

I was lost in this book and finished it in three days. It did NOT end like I wanted, but since it had my attention and I flew through it, I begrudgingly gave it five stars. It has Verity vibes for me.

We are still hooked on Skyjo around here. He have loved the card game Golf for years. Skyjo is similar, but I actually like it better.

Carson likes for me to do silly things with his animals at night. George was sitting on his ladder waiting for him, so he posed beside him. He still loves his animals so sweetly. Santa deliberated long and hard about a teddy bear to bring him. He tried to find one that he would love, but you never know what Carson will be drawn to, and sadly, his new teddy hasn't made the cut. He's still hanging with the George, Steve, and his old Teddy.

I made double cheeseburgers for Darrin and Miles over the weekend (Carson doesn't like hamburgers???). I saw a random way of making them on a reel and they were a hit I think.

Miles put on his Titans' jersey in the fourth quarter to try to will a win, but sadly, it didn't help. We figured as much.

Carson was the first one ready for church this morning and was so proud of himself. It sure is nice when he's agreeable. I have to say that the days when he's not are getting fewer and farther between.

Some random likes before I go. I'm still painting my own nails and using this top coat. That top coat is by far the best thing I've ever used on my nails.

We bought a new bedspread and sheets. We've been using the same bedspread for longer than I care to admit. It was very dingy. I wanted something very soft and plain, without breaking the bank. It took me a while to find, but mission accomplished. I found this at Marshalls. It is so comfortable. It's not quite long enough on the other side, but I decided I didn't care because no one would ever see it anyway. I think it will flatten out a little and get longer on the sides.

I got these sheets at Marshalls too. They were so cheap. I bought them because they didn't have much of a selection and we really needed sheets. I'm not sure how long they will last, but I love them. Between the new sheets, comforter, and satin pillow case I got for Christmas, my bed is hard to climb out of. Satin pillow cases are the real deal.

We did some odd jobs around the house, but it's been a low key weekend. I read a lot, Miles played video games and went to a birthday party, and Darrin & Carson watched movies. We are enjoying some downtime over the winter before our favorite (and busy) time of year starts...baseball & pool season!
