Weekend Wrap Up

Carson had his fifth daycare ball. The assignment was to dress as a prince charming. We went with the same outfit as last year.

He wore it, but he wasn't happy about it. In fairness the white shirt was a 4T and he wears a 6, so it wasn't exactly comfortable. I just didn't have the time to plan this year.

We made it through (barely) and he said he's glad that he doesn't have to do this again. He said, "I do not like the ball." Me either, Carson, me either. I'm sure the girls love it, but the boys, not so much.

After waking up with a headache on Saturday morning, I caught some sort of second wind after two Excedrin Migraine and decided to paint Miles' bathroom vanity and hang some shelves in his room.

The vanity has been on the to do list since we moved in 7 years ago. I want to redo the bathroom, but with the pool, a new HVAC unit, and especially with inflation, that just isn't going to happen anytime soon. I decided some paint would help for now.

His room has been bare since he moved in the week before Christmas. My mom gave us some shelves she had and that's what spurred the project on. The shelves had to be painted, so decided to use the same paint for the vanity.

Miles and I picked out a navy paint. I know paint dries darker, but we were both so nervous, when it went on like the bright blue on the bottom. Thankfully, it dried like the top color. The color is Valspar's Salty Dog.

The paint was specifically for cabinets. I was impressed with how it went on. It was pricey, but didn't leave any brush strokes. It was easy to paint with, similar to chalk paint, but has more sheen than chalk paint and you don't have to do any top coat or glaze.

We started prepping around 1pm and I had everything painted by 8ish. I worked pretty quickly and didn't take the time to be super particular, because I wanted the room put completely back together today, which we accomplished. I painted all the doors and drawers in Miles' bathroom. It was kind of tight, but it kept the mess contained and I didn't waste a lot of time moving stuff around. I had to spray paint the hinges, and I did that in the garage.

I usually have buyer's remorse when it comes to paint colors, but I love this color. It turned out exactly like I wanted. We have a lot of blue shades in our house already, so I guess this coordinates. Mostly, I just wanted it to be boyish for Miles. He's very happy with it.

It's hard to see the shelves, but they add some color to Miles' room. He got the baseball sign for Christmas, so we added that with his trophies, I ordered some navy pillow shams. I think that will add the finishing touch.

While I was painting, Miles slipped away to celebrate his good buddy, Mason's birthday. They had fun at a trampoline park and then dinner.

Today, was church, a service project for Miles' baseball team, mounds of laundry, and prep for the week. One of the church helpers worked with Carson on tying his shoes. He's very excited to learn right now.

We were scheduled to start baseball this weekend, but the tournament we were supposed to play in was canceled. We should definitely get the season started this coming weekend, so I'm really glad the bathroom is finished. No time for projects during baseball and definitely not after the pool is open! Back to the weekly grind tomorrow. I can't believe it's already March!

Less Words Wednesday

Carson's giggle box was turned over.

We had a very busy weekend and Marmee helped us get through it. Carson spent the night with her on Friday and loved every minute of it.

It was definitely time for a grocery order. In a weird way, I actually like when our frig looks like this because I feel like we ate everything and didn't waste anything.

Carson had a birthday party for a friend at daycare. She is such a doll.

The birthday party was at a place with tons of indoor jumpers and an arcade. He didn't know they would get to play in the arcade and it made his day.

We got to the party a few minutes early and he could hardly wait to go inside.

We enjoyed some sunshine when we had a break in the weather. Miles was a puny over the weekend. It shows in his eyes.

His golf swing needs some work, but he really loves playing in the yard.

Miles had a birthday party for his good friend, Will. They've been friends since kindergarten.

Miles' girlfriend was at the party too. I asked Miles if I could take a picture and he said yes.

Miles had a friend spend the night on a night he was grounded from electronics. They found a hide and seek book and did that together. It's amazing what they are happy with when electronics aren't an option.

We had a yard sale fundraiser for Miles' team. I can't wait to hang out with these baseball moms pretty much every weekend of the summer.

The boys helped some throughout the day but also had fun just hanging out.

Carson got a harmonica at the yard sale. Oh my.

We have had unbelievable rain. We have a countdown on our Alexa for our pool opening and for vacation. We are ready for these things, warm weather, and sunshine.

Less Words Wednesday

Leftover pictures that I haven't blogged about yet. This is a common scene around here.

But sometimes he lets Carson be in the room with him.

Occasionally, they even play together.

It's baseball season again which means icing his arm.

He loves popcorn and movies. He just finished watching Lord of the Rings with Darrin and he loved them.

Miles is helping Carson get ready for his first year of baseball.

The sunlight drives him crazy in the morning on the way to school.

Watching the Super Bowl with Marmee.

We celebrated Marmee's birthday yesterday with lasagna, ice cream cake, and presents. Happy birthday, mom!

Valentine's Day

Happy Valentine's Day! It was a big one for Miles. It was his first year to buy a gift for a valentine.

He thought long and hard about it and went with all different kinds of candy from a local candy store and some of her favorites.

After using the same box for several years, I asked Carson if he wanted to make a new box to take to school. He immediately said he wanted a shark box. We disassembled his old box to use it for the shark.

We bought two blue poster boards and some eyes at Walmart, and created this in about an hour.

It was definitely not my finest work, but he was very happy with it.

He colored the teeth on the sides, glued on the eyes, and wrote his name. I did everything else, but let him put down some of the tape. I had to fight the urge to write his name for him, but how could I when he was so proud?!

I thought his shark idea was so unique and out of the blue until I saw pictures from his party at school. There were three other sharks! Apparently the boys conspired about their boxes.

Marmee brought some treats for the boys when she came up for the Super Bowl. Miles wasn't here, but he got his when he got home later. Carson was just as excited to watch Miles open his present as he was to open his own.

I went back to the candy store where Miles bought his gift and got the boys some candy from Darrin and me. Carson said it "smelled disgusting" and to Miles' horror, even spit a few pieces out. He said it tasted terrible. I don't know what Miles thinks of it because he would say he liked it to make me feel good even if he didn't :)

My present to Darrin. iykyk. He says this all the time. There has never been a more perfect gift. He got me chocolate which is also a perfect gift.

It's been a love filled day. And now, I'm going to love reading my book until I crawl into bed which is the part of the day that I love the most! Happy Valentine's Day!

Less Words Wednesday

So proud to wear Miles' baseball pullover to school. It actually fit him pretty well. Miles was 7 when he wore this, compared to Carson at 5!

Carson-isms

I know pretty soon, especially after he starts kindergarten, Carson is going to start pronouncing things correctly and putting words together in the proper order. So, I wanted to write a few things down to remember. I've been slower to correct Carson than I was with Miles. It just seems so cute when Carson says things and I know that once it's over, this stage is gone.

Three words that are pronounced incorrectly every time are elephant which is eph-a-lant, animal which is aminal, and ambulance which is amb-a-lance.

When he gets mad about something, he says "I'm so mad of you" or "I'm so mad of it".

When he was doing his homework tonight, he said, "I'm so good at this. I'm goated." For those of you that don't have almost teenagers, "goated" is greatest of all time. It's not just G.O.A.T. anymore...all the cool kids say goated. He picks up all Miles' slang and already sounds so grown.

As I've said before that Carson gets in his grippy moods. He was in one of those moods on the way home from Little Ninjas last night, probably because he was hungry and tired. All the problems in his world last night stemmed from only getting to invite 3 kids to his birthday party, which was last July! I finally told him I didn't want to hear another word about it. He's holding a big time grudge that he only had three friends at his party and didn't get many presents. He said that when he turns 6 he wants to have his party wherever he can have the most friends and get the most presents.

He recently told me that there is a lady that lives in the top of the church where he goes to preschool. Her name is Mrs. Swamp. She sleeps lot and only wakes up when the kids are bad. I asked who told him this and he said no one. I have no idea if a teacher said this at some point or if it's something he made up in his mind.

He says phrases like "Hey sir" or "Whatcha doing mister" which also makes him sound very grown.

He's been at his daycare since he was one and they know him well there so I don't really worry about the things he says, but I cannot imagine what is going to come out of his mouth at kindergarten. Miles has always had a filter and some sort of awareness. Carson, not so much. I have a feeling it is going to be very entertaining for his teacher.
