We chilled out for a while together & now he's in bed, Darrin is on
the couch, I'm about to go to bed & watch TV....and it's 8:25pm.

Tired
It's been a long week. Darrin & I emailed back and forth today about how tired we were. New diet...no caffeine...hard work week...scrimmage that lasted until 8:45pm last night...I couldn't wait until 5 o'clock so I could pick Miles up and go home to our warm house. My goal was to get everything done that needed to be done so we could relax after dinner. And, that's just what we did. Miles was so excited about us watching Jake & the Neverland Pirates together. While Darrin & I were cleaning up after dinner, he got a blanket out for each of us and told us where our seats were. He said to me, "Momma, you will sit here b/c it's comfy." He knows the way to my heart.

Food is Fuel
That's our motto right now....food is fuel. We've been using it as entertainment for a long time and it's time to make some changes. We're going a little hard core and eliminating flour, sugar, dairy, caffeine, preservatives, and as many hormones & additives as we can. I spent some time this weekend preparing food for the week...
Today is only day two, so there's not much to report yet. We have both complied so far. Caffeine & sugar have been the hardest to give up. We were craving something sweet tonight, so I made a shake with ice, coconut milk, vanilla almond milk, bananas, cocoa, and a little estevia. It was actually really good. It's amazing what tastes good when you are hungry.
Several people have asked if Miles is going to eat our new foods. Yes and no. He will definitely eat what we have for dinner b/c that really hasn't changed a whole lot. Last night, we had grilled chicken, brown rice, roasted sweet potatoes, and a cucumber & tomato salad with balsamic dressing. Tonight, we had hamburger steaks with green beans and leftover sweet potatoes. He likes all that so no problem there. We've discussed the pancake obsession so breakfast might be hard to change. Since he eats lunch at daycare, that's unfortunately out of our hands. We've always been very conscience of what he eats. I was beginning to wonder how much longer I could feed him healthy foods while Darrin & I ate junk. Here's hoping this change will help all three of us.
Since food is not very fun to read about, I'll leave you with a picture of Miles. He wanted to call Darrin on Sunday while we were waiting for him to get home. It was pitiful. Miles couldn't get the words out b/c he was so choked up. He was saying, "Daddy, I want you to be home" while fighting back the tears.
Then, he went on to tell Darrin that I was not his (Miles) best friend anymore b/c I was mad at him. He frequently tells on us to each other. I guess when you don't have any siblings there's no one else to blame stuff on.

Weekend Wrap Up
Darrin went out of town and my mom came in town. I can sum up the entire weekend with....lots of talk about the new house. My mom has been in Florida for the last several weeks and I couldn't wait for her to get back so we could talk about decorating and paint and furniture and moving. Fun, fun, fun! We stayed up on Friday night until after midnight. I got to hear about her trip and she got to hear all about the new house.
On Saturday, we did a little furniture shopping...
Afterwards, we ate dinner at Applebee's. It was really good and Miles was very well behaved. It was so nice to sit there and talk without him acting crazy. We were both pleasantly surprised. We bragged on him a lot & he seemed so proud to hear us compliment him.
After dinner, we went to Lowes and looked at tons of stuff. We drooled over appliances and paint colors and bathroom counter tops until Miles was over it. He was a great little shopper, but he reached his limit....rightfully so. He got some new Mickey gloves & a shovel to work in the yard at the new house. He says he waiting for spring. Until then, they have become part of his regular 'get up' at home...
My mom went home this morning. Miles & I have hung out today just waiting for Darrin to get home. We are starting a major diet tomorrow, so we did the only logical thing when he got home....we went for our last supper at Los Portales. More on the diet tomorrow.....I'm not sure what we are getting ourselves into! We are both giving up caffeine, so you all may want to give us some wake up calls tomorrow. Oh and, excuse our grouchiness!

Less Words Wednesday
This sums up my day...morning, noon, and night. I've been trying to cut back on caffeine but this morning was a full Crystal Light Energy packet kind of day...
I go home for lunch every day and I really like to have the house to myself b/c I never have any time alone. Ladies, you know what I mean. Darrin cramped my style yesterday. So today, he was sweet and left me the heck alone :)
Tonight, I'm tired and I want to guarantee I sleep well...
Good night!

Our Nights Out
This doesn't really go with the rest of the post, but....last night before bed Miles informed us that he wanted waffles for breakfast. I told him that we didn't have any. He said that he wanted some from Huddle House. Now, I can count on one hand the number of times he's been to Huddle House, but somehow, in the midst of bedtime, probably in an effort to delay, it seemed like the perfect thing to ask for. And, what Miles wants, he usually gets. Exhibit A....
That was extra. Now on to what I'm really talking about. Tonight was Dad's Night at daycare. Darrin said he was pretty good except when he had a slight melt down b/c another kid wouldn't share a toy. I'd say he fared better than I did on Mom's Night. Neither of them talked much about what they did or even if they had fun, but Darrin did manage to take two pictures...
While the boys were having a grand time at daycare, I was enjoying dinner & a movie with friends. Only a few of us were lucky enough to sneak away from the husbands and kids long enough for both. Dinner was yummy and there were lots of laughs too...
Then it was time for the movie. They are all used to my camera by now. I actually made them stay after the movie for some pictures. They humor me and I love them for it.
We went to see Safe Haven. I've been seeing all these comments on Facebook about how sweet the movie is. It is sweet. However, I guess everyone failed to mention that it's scary too. I am a huge wimp when it comes to scary movies. I don't like any part of them. Darrin travels too much for me to see anything that could haunt me later. Thankfully it had the predictable ending that never gets old for me. I don't know if the guys had fun or not, but I had a great night.

Identity Crisis
Spiderman costume, Fix It Felix belt, Ninja Turtles sword, Power Ranger discs, and random car keys b/c he said that he was 'Key Man'. He is dressed up as something 95% of the time.
And just like that, he went from Spiderman to this b/c he said he was hot...

Weekend Wrap Up
I thought I would go ahead and post this even though I have tomorrow off and therefore my weekend is technically not over!!! Friday night we had some friends over for pizza and the longest game of Rook in the history of Rook. Miles, Allie, and Ansley eating pizza...
One game of Rook, and only to 250 points, lasted probably 2 hours. Of course there were multiple breaks for kids, food, etc....
Fun night with friends...
This is what happens when little girls come to play at our house. These pictures crack me up. The best part is that we didn't even ask them to pose.

I'm not sure what Carrie & I were distracted by, but not Jeni Beth...she never broke her pose....
Fun night with friends...
I must be training Miles well b/c he actually laid in bed longer than me on Saturday morning. He was playing Free Flow on my phone and kept telling me that he was really good at it...
After he finally got up, we met Carrie & Ansley at the gym so the kids could play together in the kid area while we worked out. I managed to run 25 minutes before Miles insisted that he was thirsty & hungry. Definitely better than nothing.
Darrin had a recruit in town, so Miles & I hung out at home. I wanted to get out of the house on Saturday night so I offered to take Miles to see Escape from Planet Earth. He said that he wanted to go, but when it actually came down to taking a bath and getting dressed, he decided that he'd rather stay home. I practically begged him to go and he wasn't having it. Unfortunately I had already gotten completely ready. We stayed home and both went to bed early.
This morning, we went to church and took our regular Sunday afternoon nap. I laid down with him and planned to get up once he fell asleep. Two hours later, he was waking me up. I guess I needed it. Darrin rejoined the family around 5pm and he and Miles went to the driving range for the first time this year. I was so thankful to have an hour to myself. I spent it at the gym, which was perfect.
We played the XBOX tonight. This is the first time that Miles was able to really play with us. We all had so much fun. Excuse the underwear shots. Miles has become the most hot natured kid and clothes are now optional.
In other news....we bought a house! It all went down very quickly, and we are super excited about it. I looked at it on Monday...Darrin & I went back to look again on Wednesday....we made an offer at 7:30am on Thursday...and the deal was done an hour later. One of our goals with our house hunt was to find a place that we could have a lot of people over at one time. Darrin's family is big, our SS class is big, and we also want to be able to have Darrin's team over. We found a place that can accommodate everyone inside and outside. We have the home inspection tomorrow. If all goes as planned, we will close mid April. I had the house pulled up on the computer yesterday. Miles walked by and asked if that was our new house. I told him it was. He didn't say anything...he just ran over and hugged my legs. It was quite possibly the sweetest thing he's ever done. So this weekend was a great ending to a great week. And I did I mention that I am off tomorrow???

Our Valentine's Day
We had a fun Valentine's Day at our house. Gifts for everyone. Miles got a Power Ranger mask and some little stuff that came with it. Powers Rangers are a big deal for him right now.
Miles gave me a Super Hero card that he picked out. I loved it so much that I took it to work and put it on my desk...
Towards the end of the day I realized it was actually a birthday card. Darrin said he knew it was, but that he got it anyway b/c Miles picked it out. I would have done the same thing.
Darrin gave me a Boogie Board, which is an erasable LED memo pad. The perfect gift for someone who kills trees with the amount of doodling I do, especially while talking on the phone at work...
Darrin got a book he's been wanting and some movie tickets. No pictures b/c the book hasn't come in the mail yet and I haven't actually gone to buy the tickets. Oops. Thankfully he could care less.
Another highlight of the day was that Miles got to be the camera man at school. During circle time, the teacher picks a camera person and a weather person. I asked Miles what the camera man does & he said, "films the guy in front of us". Thanks for sending these pictures, Brook!

I woke up at 4:15am and couldn't go back to sleep. I played on my phone looking at Pinterest and FB for a while and then decided to go to the gym at 5:15am. I knew I'd be tired tonight so I thought I would my workout over with. I'm so glad I did b/c I am exhausted. I couldn't get home & in my sweats fast enough! We are waiting for Darrin to get home and then it's steaks and couch time for us. I'm not doing a thing all night. That might be the greatest present ever. Happy Valentine's Day!
