Touch a Truck

Yesterday, Miles & I made plans to go to the 2nd Annual Touch a Truck.  We went last year and had a great time.  Basically the event consists of tons of different types of transportation including fire trucks, tractors, a helicopter, a limo, etc.  The kids get to crawl all over them and honk the horns.  We had such a good time last year, that we chose Touch a Truck over the circus this weekend.  I have been wanting to take Miles to the circus, but I just couldn't pass us Touch a Truck, and it was free so that helped make it an easy decision.  We had plans to meet one of Miles' friends, Aiden, and his mom there.  We got there a little early and checked a few things out.

First up, was the ambulance, which was Miles' number one priority.  He has been obsessed with ambulances lately.  We drive by the hospital on our way to & from daycare everyday.  He always checks to see if they are at the hospital, or if they are "gone to help somebody".

Next was a huge combine....

....and then a police car...
Miles was having an okay time, but was very happy when Aiden arrived...
The event is held at a huge parks & rec complex that has a nice playground.  The boys got a little distracted...

They got to see the helicopter fly away...
....and then it was back to business...
Miles' friend, Ansley, joined in at this point.  She was running across the parking lot yelling "Miles, Miles".  It was super cute.  She usually calls him "Milesy" :)
Then the boys decided to do some "work"...

I hope I never see this site when he is older....
Aiden helped Miles overcome his fear of big, dressed up characters.  Peer pressure is a crazy thing, even at age 2...
Inside the fire truck.  This has to be one of the cutest pictures ever...

He was saying "I run over you Momma" in this picture...

These pictures don't really go in order of the day....but they accurately portray Miles' theme of the day, which was "safety first".  He insisted on putting on his seat belt in every vehicle.  Check this out....

Darrin played golf in the morning, so after Touch a Truck we met him at home.  All three of us took naps.  Mine was just a cat nap b/c I had plans to go shopping by myself that afternoon.  I really needed to buy some work clothes and Miles is not a fun shopper.  Our shopping trips usually end with everyone extremely frustrated, each for our own good reason.

So, I left the boys and went shopping.  I sent Darrin a text after the first store that basically said that I had done really well but that I was sad to be almost out of money.  Being the extremely gracious husband that he is, he told me to stay & shop as long as I wanted.  He's always very kind like that.  I don't usually take him up on the offer, but yesterday I did.  I didn't get home until after 10pm.  It was lots of fun, and good for me too, I think.  The boys enjoyed some time at the driving range & pizza for dinner.
I think everyone went to bed happy.

Just Right

Have I mentioned that I do not like the new Blogspot format???  Anyway...just a quick post tonight...b/c I don't want to forget how adorable Miles is.  Tonight he picked out these Buzz pjs.  I said, "Miles, do you want to wear a t-shirt since this shirt is too small?"

His reply..."No mom, it's just right..."

After owning my camera for over 4 years, I finally took it off Auto mode tonight and attempted to play with some settings.  I found some tutorials on Pinterest that actually seemed to be written in English.  All that to explain why the above pics aren't great...I was experimenting.  Tomorrow is the 2nd Annual Touch A Touch, so I should have plenty of photo ops to test what I've learned.

Women of Joy Conference

Oh my....Blogger has changed it's format and I'm very disoriented at this point.  I'm not adjusting well to this change, so I'm going to keep this very short.

I went with 21 women from my church to the Women of Joy conference in Sevierville, TN this past weekend.  I loved it.  The speakers were great, the music was excellent, and the time with friends was so much fun.  A huge highlight was the Chris Tomlin concert on Saturday night.

We had some free time to do some shopping on Saturday.  There is a huge outlet mall in Sevierville.  Miles has been wanting a cowboy hat since the rodeo, so I found a Woody cowboy hat at the Disney store.  It came with a belt & holster.  He's in love.

Told you I was keeping it short.  I'll have to figure out this new set up & get back in the routine of blogging soon.  Promise to do that soon.  I'm still not caught up on my sleep from the trip....we had several late nights & early mornings.....so, good night everyone.

Another Busy Saturday

On Saturday, Miles & I went to the bank to deposit some money that his Granny & Pa gave him. It was a bunch of rolled coins, so he wheeled it in...

This is Miles' new pose for everything. We are puzzled where the hand on the hip came from...

The loot...

Waiting for his turn...

Helping Ms. Renee...

She let him put the coins in the trays & showed him how the trays match the color on each coin wrapper...

His receipt & a lollipop...

He was very happy with the lollipop but not happy that he had to leave his money at the bank. I tried to explain that the bank keeps your money safe until you need it, but that concept was easily lost on a two year old. I work for the best bank ever, and they made our experience great!

After depositing Miles' money, we did a little grocery shopping. The cart with the car in the front was a huge hit. We don't usually go to this store, but we might start b/c he was so entertained. As I was trying to maneuver around the store with this huge cart, I thought to myself..."the things we do for our kids"...I ran into a lot of things, but he was a great little shopper, so it was well worth it.

He's a cheap date b/c he does not like when these type of things actually move. He just likes to sit on them. Fine by me.

After a nap & some play time outside, we met Darrin at the rodeo. His team played in Louisville all day. He made it back just in time to meet us.....very good Daddy considering he didn't feel good and was super tired from a long day at work.

Miles loved the rodeo and watched intently for around 20 minutes. Then, he watched a little and wiggled a lot. He liked it enough to want a cowboy hat, boots, & a rope. So what did we do? We left the rodeo at 9:30pm and went to Walmart to look for something rodeo-ish. Of course there wasn't anything b/c all the other parents planned ahead and bought their children such items before the rodeo. Darrin found him some $2 string to use as a lasso. In the middle of Walmart, I thought...."what in the world are we doing here?"..."why didn't we just say no?"

He went to bed with the string that night and has been playing with ever since. But, don't call it string....it's a rope. Yesterday he did tricks with his "rope" like the rodeo clown. He said "Momma you cheer for me" b/c he kept hearing the announcer say that while we were there. He has also been roping his stick horse that he calls Maximus (after the horse in Tangled). Our little cowboy is fast asleep so I think I'll go catch up on some DVRed shows. Good night all.

Potty Training Ploy #99

It feels as though we've made no progress with potty training since the last time I blogged about it. He does fine in public, but at home and daycare he's still very inconsistent. I guess it's b/c he's comfortable both places. After several texts with his teacher the other night, she mentioned that the kids will have the opportunity to take swimming lessons this summer at daycare, but only if they are potty trained. Say. No. More.

Within ten minutes of receiving her text, we were in the car on the way to the pool where they have swimming lessons. The pictures are dark b/c the pool was technically closed. We asked very nicely if we could take a peek and they said yes.

Darrin is explaining that this is where he would get to come with all of his friends to swim, but only if he started peeing & pooping in the potty. We also told him that kids that still went to the bathroom in their underwear had to stay at daycare while their friends went swimming.

He seemed excited when we left, which was Tuesday night. I hesitate to type this b/c I'm certain I will jinx the progress, but he had zero accidents at daycare the rest of the week! He even told his teacher when he needed to go, which is a huge step forward. He had a few accidents at home, so now we're reminding him that potty trained for swimming lessons means at daycare & at home. Regardless of the accidents at home, the progress at school makes me very happy.

Easter Sunday

The Easter bunny left a basket in Miles' playroom. He loved everything in it, but his favorite was the butterfly net. On a side note...don't you love his morning attire. Someone help us remember to choose his next Halloween costume very carefully....as we may be asked to wear something from said costume many months after Halloween.

Checking out the goods...

My mom was able to spend Easter with us...

Love this one...

After church, we went to Crystal & Steve's house for lunch with Darrin's family & then had an Easter egg hunt. These two are best buddies...

Ava was doing a trick, so Miles decided that he needed to as well...

Crystal & Steve...

Miles wanted to catch butterflies, but was only able to catch some flies with the help of his Pa...

We also celebrated Olivia's 8th birthday. I can't believe she's already 8.

I see a theme in Darrin's family...

Happy Easter everyone!
