Less Words Wednesday

The volleyball girls were having a sleepover for some team bonding and stopped by to surprise Darrin. I went inside and told Miles the entire volleyball team was in his driveway. He came out to see but didn't speak. Carson wasn't a bit shy.

Miles and Carson had some friends over to swim over the weekend. They ate a LOT!

I haven't been feeling great, so Carson said he wanted to do the dishes to help me out.

When Darrin or I are out of town, he gets to sleep in our bed. Steve and George take up the space of a human.

We went to watch the first volleyball game. This was before the boredom and grumpiness set in...

Miles started working this week. He umpired a 12U game on Monday, but then his games were rained out on Tuesday. He got paid anyway and loved making some money. He watched some YouTube videos to make sure he knew where he was supposed to be positioned during each play. I love that he took the job seriously.

Third grade is more homework than we are used to. He squeezed it in while we waited for Miles at the orthodontist. I'm sticking to my guns about not supervising homework. I want to jump in and rescue, but they both get it done without much help so I'm not starting now.

Miles' birthday week has begun. It's a big one.

We are all so excited for this milestone. Carson doesn't look like it, but he is!!

Less Words Wednesday

One weekend this summer, Darrin took Miles to play baseball in Hoover, Alabama, while I took Carson to play in Senatobia, Mississippi. 

It's hard to divide and conquer, but I'm glad we take turns with each kid. 

Darrin got to connect with one of his former UTM volleyball girls that lives in Alabama.

Miles got to play in the Met which is where the SEC championship is held every year.

It wasn't a successful weekend for his team, but they did manage to have a lot of fun at Top Golf and Dave & Busters. 

They spent some free time visiting Samford University.

Meanwhile, Carson and I had a good time in Senatobia. I canceled our hotel room because I felt so sure it was going to be rained out. That left us as the only family that wasn't staying at the same hotel. I called all day but they were booked solid. Carson was VERY upset about it and I wasn't thrilled about having to drive a pretty good distance to find a decent hotel that wasn't booked. I prayed all day that something would work out. I even thought about driving two hours home but our Saturday game ended late. When my friend checked into her room, they told her she had accidentally booked two rooms, so we grabbed one of them and got to stay with the team! It was a good lesson for Carson to learn to pray about all the things.

We have raised some pretty bougie children however. Carson was not a fan of the sheets that were clearly less than an acceptable thread count. 

On championship Sunday, we had ALL day to kill because his first game wasn't until 6:30pm. We went and looked around Northwest Community College. 

We also got a bunch of snacks at Walmart and ate in the car because we'd already eaten out for breakfast and lunch :)

The craziest thing happened...I found a $100 bill in my glovebox. I had forgotten putting it there 2 months before. It was the equivalent of finding a $5 in your pocket x 10.

After a very LONG day, Carson team won a big game and walked away champs!

It was the last tournament of the season and definitely the culmination of a lot of hard work and practice. 

Spending one-on-one time with each of them is fun and special. I feel sure that core memories for made for all of us.

Back to School

Getting ready for back to school with boys isn't a big deal. I got school supplies for Carson one night while shopping at Kroger (without him because he doesn't care). After school started, Miles needed four things. It's really just shoes and haircuts. We had a very hard time finding shoes for Carson because he's a 9 year old with man sized feet. We ended up getting Brooks in a women's size 9. Ms. Jaime spoiled Carson with washing his hair.

Carson's open house was come & go this year and it was so much better. Parking was a breeze and it wasn't crowded.

We stopped in for a few minutes to drop off supplies and meet his homeroom teacher, Ms. Cindy. She was so sweet to talk to him and show him around the room. She asked him what he'd been up this to summer and he said, "Chilling at home". Never mind flying for the first time, playing baseball, or having an epic 9th birthday to name a few things. He methodically organized his school supplies in his cubby before we left. 

We stopped in to meet his swap teacher, Ms. Carrie. She moved up from second grade and was so excited to see Carson. It made his night.

Seeing friends is always a highlight of open house night.

These two are peas in a pod and hope every year they they will be in the same class. So far it hasn't happened.

He loved seeing his kindergarten teacher. We went to visit his second grader teacher too, but I forgot to take a picture. He's had the very best teachers every year.

Third grade.

They were both mostly glad to be back in school. It was a great first week and we are back in the swing of things.

Weekend Wrap Up

The hardest part of taking a break from blogging is the thought of trying to catch up on everything, so I'm just going to pick up here and hopefully find time to post all the pics from summer another day. I took a lot of pictures last weekend with the intention of blogging and never did, so this is a last weekend and this weekend wrap up.

Darrin was out of town last weekend which was unfortunate because we had a guy in our area that killed 4 people and was still on the loose. It was a little unnerving for everyone in our area. Thankfully he was caught last week but not before I stayed home by myself for two nights with Carson. 

Carson loves sleepovers and Darrin doesn't ;) so we try to do them when he is out of town. We invited a friend over after I got off work on Friday.

We went to the store for snacks. They went for a sour, green theme.

They did a little night swimming. 

His friend decided to go home because he hadn't seen his dad all week, so Carson slept with me. 

Meanwhile Darrin and Miles were at the PBR Super Sophomore Games in Georgia. 

Two of his teammates were invited too. 

It was a good event and Miles is motivated to work towards his goals after seeing some really good competition. 

Carson wanted some hot pink Crocs after he saw a kid wearing some. He's been nervous to wear them to school but he broke them out on day 2. One of his teachers loves pink so I think he was eager to impress her. One girl asked him why he was wearing girl shoes, so we'll see if he has the nerve to wear them again. I'll be curious to see how he handles it.

Marmee came for a visit and swam with us too.

Carson has the teenager hair going on, but I think it looks pretty handsome on him.

In some fun news, Marmee got a scooter! It is a big hit with Carson and Miles.

We all had to go for a visit and try it out. 

Carson had another friend over today. He could only stay for one hour, but they made the most of it. They swam and played with water balloons. I've been wanting these stools for the pool for so long and I finally bought some. They have lived up to my hype. I love them so much!

We had a rare moment today when the boys played together, laughed, had fun, and it didn't end in a fight. Noteworthy!

After a long summer of baseball and being away from home, it's really nice to enjoy these weekends at home. I counted up today and we should still have 4=5 more weekends in the pool. I love fall, but I'm not ready for summer to be over.
