Weekend Wrap Up

This is the most low key weekend we have had in a long time. Darrin was out of town. He text me on Friday to say that he landed in Omaha. I responded with, "ha ha, I thought you were in Indy". That pretty much sums up our life. I'm a pretty structured person, but being married to a coach for most of our marriage makes you learn to go with the flow and relax a lot. Carson and I spent most of the weekend together because Miles is a preteen and suddenly has a social life. Carson made a fort in his room.

This is the inside of his fort. He lived the life most of the weekend.

He played the fighting game with his stuffed animals a lot.

We did a sticker book together that I picked up at Dollar Tree on Friday. I thought it was much cuter than he did, but he was more impressed after we got into it.

We also played some games. I would read for a while or do something around the house and then do something with him. That arrangement works pretty well for him, especially when you mix in some time outside, even if it's just a walk to the end of the driveway.

Miles had a joint birthday party for two of his very good friends, Nate and Davis. Tons of his friends were there. They let Carson join in the fun too.

It was a dodgeball party. All the parents said we should organize more of these play dates during the winter, because they loved it and got lots of energy out. So much better than video games on repeat.

Carson played outside for a while even though it was cold. He stayed out as long as he could stand it.

Miles spent the night with a friend, so we snuggled and he watched TV while I read.

I finished this book last night. I love Colleen Hoover, so I preordered her new book months ago. I couldn't wait to read it this weekend. It was great. I loved it so much.

We picked Miles up at his friend's house this morning and headed to church.

After church, I sat in the car, in the garage, to get a few moments of peace. There was a lot of fighting and arguing today which is my absolute least favorite thing. It makes me crazy.

Miles had his first baseball practice today! He does not like to play in long sleeves, so as soon as he warmed up, he was down to his jersey.

It was so good to be with my friends and enjoy being outside, even if it was very cold. The wind was chilly.

Marmee came for dinner. Carson was really happy about that. We had roast and veggies. Carson told us how good it was with every bite.

This has been one of the most restful weekends I have had in a long, long time. January and February tend to be like that for us. Darrin recruits a lot and we don't have much going on. Plus, it's cold, so it's the perfect time to chill at home.

Not Our Normal Life

We've had some really fun times lately, much more exciting that our normal, everyday life. We had so much fun celebrating Abby's 40th birthday.

Her party was the same weekend as Black Tie and Boxing, so we were kid free two nights in a row. We love our children dearly, but that was fun!

Girl gang right here. Our boys are all great friends too. The party was a surprise and we helped pull it off. So fun!!! We talk so often that I was afraid I was going to slip up, but thankfully no one did.

There were a lot of laughs and I'm so happy some were documented.

Happy birthday, Abby! Your party was one for the books :)

Another fun time was had last night. Darrin and Miles went to the University of Memphis basketball game.

We've been to this venue before, but never for a basketball game. Miles loved it. He loves Kentucky basketball, but he really seemed to enjoy this almost as much. I was kind of surprised by that.

My company has a suite and they were able to watch from there. Miles text me on the way home and thanked me for the tickets and told me the cookies were amazing :) They had all kinds of food, but apparently the cookies were delicious. He was still talking about them this morning.

Carson and I hung out at home. He watched a movie that he had already watched earlier in the day with Granny and Pa. I just tried to keep my eyes open.

Darrin and Miles didn't get home until midnight, so he was a little sleepy this morning. I actually let him have a Crystal Light energy packet in his water. He only had a few sips, but he said it helped him. I told him if he wanted to do fun things like that, he had to be able to roll with it the next day, so he did.

After all of our fun lately, we have a very quiet weekend at home planned. Some household chores, church, and football watching are on the schedule. Miles does have a friend's birthday party and the first baseball practice for the season, but that's all. I plan to relax and read a lot. Happy Friday!

Carson's Mood & Black Tie & Boxing

Carson's daycare is closed this week due to Covid, so he is spending the week split between Darrin, Marmee, Granny & Pa, and me. He ran an errand with Darrin on Monday morning which required them to be in the car quite a bit. Thank goodness he's a much better traveler these days.

Darrin dropped him off at my office late afternoon so I could take him to his Little Ninja class. I wish I could say he cut and drew quietly like this, but there was lots of talking and complaining about how my office is quiet and boring.

On the way home from Little Ninjas, everything was wrong. He gets in these moods that are best described as 'grippy'. When he gets like this, he literally complains about everything....why did you turn that way, going this way is boring, why are you driving so slowly, why did you look at me, the seat belt is messed up, I don't want my shoes on, I'm hungry, I don't want dinner.....it literally is one complaint after another. It's usually because he is tired or hungry or both. The only way to stop him is to very firmly tell him to stop and that you don't want to hear another word. Seconds after I told him that, he looked like this.

Being out of a routine is very hard for him. He needs structure, and a nap is really good for him even though he never takes one when he's not at school. It may be a long week!

I wanted to post some more pictures from Black Tie & Boxing. We ran into Darrin's assistant coach and her husband, who is the baseball coach at the same school. I told them we had to take a picture because the four of us being dressed up like this never happens.

Ginger is one of my favorite work peeps. I told her we had to get a picture to add to the bookshelf in my office. Now we have two to choose from.

Chuck is my boss and he's super fun to be around. I am very fortunate to work for him! He is the one that gave me a chance in my current role, so I am very thankful to him for that.

The event is a fundraiser for JDRF which raises money for type one diabetes research. We started going to this event years ago because one of couple friends has a daughter that was diagnosed. The boys had to get their picture with her poster.

Darrin and I went home when there were two fights left, but the boys stayed to the very end.

My sweet boy told me I looked nice when I went upstairs to get a picture with him :) He's still a little taller than me even with my heels on.

Darrin and I had a good time together. It was kind of a chill night. We used to rent MMA fights back in the day when that was a thing, so this event is always entertaining for us. It can be a wild night on the town for a lot of people, so the people watching is on point. Dinner was amazing too. The only problem is we were by a hallway and the air coming in was freezing. At the end of the night, I was ready for a warm truck and my warm bed!

These ladies work on the second floor with me and they are always up for fun. We had a good time the weeks leading up to it talking about what we were going to wear and exchanging pictures. After ordering 9 dresses online, I ended up wearing one in my closet that I had forgotten about. To say I annoyed myself with all that would be a major understatement.

Group pic of the employees. Our table was this close to the ring. During one fight, the fighter tore his bicep muscle and we were close enough to see it. It was rough to watch for sure. Another fighter dislocated his shoulder, but thankfully we didn't see that. It was definitely up close and personal.

The event raised a HUGE amount of money and I'm glad that we got to be part of it!

Weekend Wrap Up

This was the most social weekend we have had in a long time. I have so many pictures. I thought I would post a few to wrap up the weekend and then I'll post more this week.

Carson's daycare was closed due to Covid on Friday, so he went to work with Darrin. He kept wandering around the corner to hang out in the administrative offices. Clearly he is comfortable at Darrin's office!

Darrin's assistant coach had to bring her baby to work too. Carson loves Jett. He tells us all the time how cute he is.

Carson and Miles spent the night with Granny and Pa on Friday night. They watched a movie, ate popcorn, and played Dominos.

While the kids were away, we went to a surprise party for Abby! We had such a fun night hanging with our friends. I love when the stars align and a memorable night comes out of nowhere. That's how this night was. Her family pulled off a great surprise!

Saturday night, Carson spent the night with Marmee. They played Legos, ate snacks, and watched TV. When Darrin dropped him off, Carson told him he was ready for him to leave. He was ready to have Marmee's full attention!

We had an event for my work. This is the fourth year that we have gone to the Black Tie & Boxing charity event, but the first year we've been on the floor verses the balcony. The balcony is casual and the floor is formal. It was fun a fun night with my work friends.

Miles and three of his friends went to the event for the first time and sat in the balcony with his friends' parents. They had a great time. Miles said he liked the MMA fights the best (ditto for Darrin & me!). It was fun to wave to him during the night.

He had a sleepover with his friends afterwards. Apparently they had big plans to stay up all night, but when Abby checked on them at 2am, they were fast asleep.

I hope these boys are always great friends.

On Sunday, I was able to go to a late lunch with Rachel & Christa, my longtime friends from Martin. We haven't see each other in way too long, but our conversation felt like we still talk daily. These girls are forever friends no matter how much we do or don't talk. Fun fact...the last time we were all together (because Christa moved out of state for a while) was during the height of the pandemic in 2020. We got a hotel room just to be able to hang out all night and talk before Christa moved. Nothing was open, so we had to get Chickfila and take it back to the room :)

It was such a fun weekend. I enjoyed hanging out with so many friends and getting to hang out with Darrin sans kids. We are very, very thankful to the grandparents for watching them. It's crazy, but I feel happy and refreshed after a weekend of laughter and some downtime without kids. I plan to be back this week to share many more pictures from our oh so fun weekend.
