Conversations With Miles

I have so many things to blog about....Miles' Smoky Mountain trip....the new house....before & after pictures....but we are still recovering from the move.  So, I leave you with a few recent conversations with Miles.

The other night as I was tucking Miles in bed...
Me: "What was good about your day?"
Miles: "Well, there's good news & there's bad news.  I'll start with the bad news. I got my feet dirty but Amanda (a volleyball player that was babysitting him) cleaned them off. The good news is that I like sleeping in my warm, cozy bed."

The other day while we were working on the new house there were some electricians adding some outlets for us. One of them was smoking in the garage.  Miles told me that "one of those mens has a fire stick in his mouth. It doesn't have fire on it but it smells like smoke."  I guess he's never been around cigarettes before.

Darrin was out of town a few weeks ago.  As I was tucking Miles in bed, I asked him what he wanted for breakfast.  His reply...."But Daddy's gone, how will we make breakfast?"  He was totally serious.  I assured him that I knew how to make breakfast too, although I'm not sure he was convinced.

I don't like to post without a picture, but this is all I've got folks.  Good night!

Weekend Wrap Up

Friday was moving day.  The day started with a gift basket from my friends at work.  They are the best!

It was a very drizzly, dreary, raining day to move to our new house.

The movers called and asked if we still wanted to go ahead with the move due to the weather and informed us that it would get very dirty.  So, I left work and hour early and bought some paper to tape down.  My friend, Melanie, spent her lunch hour taping down paper with me...

Once the paper was down....

...I waited in the peace & quiet for the movers to show up.  It was the calm before the storm.

It took them about 45 minutes to figure out a way to get the truck up the driveway b/c of the angle.

Just as they pulled up the driveway, it started to rain.  Luckily it only sprinkled for a few minutes.  The rain held off until about 5 minutes after they left.  Then, it proceeded to rain hard for the next day and a half.

We had several visitors during the weekend.  I didn't get pictures of everyone, but thanks to friends and family for visiting, bringing food, helping unpack, cleaning, hanging things, entertaining Miles, etc.  We couldn't have done it without you.

Stephanie helped direct traffic while the movers were here and mostly just kept me sane.  It's hard watching your furniture being manhandled up stairs and around freshly painted walls.  I realize they can only be so gentle but it's nerve-racking!

When we picked Miles up from school on Friday, the first thing he did was color at the desk in his room.  He kept asking when we were going home (to the rental).  We explained several times that this is home now.  He said, "Then you and Daddy need to put on your pjs."  He's happiest when we are all home and in our "comfy clothes".  He gets it honest.  On Saturday, he asked me if we were going to live here forever.  I told him yes (because WE ARE!) and he said, "Good".

We were nervous that Miles might not do as well in this room as he did in the rental b/c we aren't as close.  I'm happy to report that he's stayed in his bed both nights.  Tonight, he even went to bed while we were downstairs, which we also thought might be a problem.

Saturday morning we had to go out to breakfast b/c all of our food was still boxed up.  We went to the Hearth...

After breakfast, we went back to the rental to clean it up.  While we were cleaning, Miles decided to turn on the water at the washer and dryer hook ups.  It shot all over him like a fire hydrant.  It scared the life out of him.  He was drenched in seconds & so was the room.  We didn't laugh at him b/c he was so scared but it was very funny.  Hopefully it was a good lesson not to mess with things that you don't know what they do.  He had to ride home shirtless and soaked.

We finally finished putting almost everything away around 10pm last night.  The weekend was exhausting and I'm so glad it's behind us.  We still have a ton of boxes to go through that were in storage while we were in the rental.  They will have to wait a while.  I have no idea what's in them, so I'm not missing anything.

Even though we had late nights, Miles was still up early.  We tried to convince him to go back to sleep so we could rest for a little while longer...

Aunt Crystal, Uncle Steve, Olivia and Ava came to visit today.  The kids had fun together as usual.

Tonight we went to Lowes & ran into our friend, Grayson...

After Lowes, we made our millionth trip to Walmart.  What is it about a move that makes going to Walmart every couple hours a necessity???  It's been a long weekend, but the boxes are unpacked, the house is clean, the frig is stocked, and we are ready to start the week in our new house.  So grateful.

Busy, Busy

We have been so busy working on the new house, hence no blogging. Here are a few sneak peaks of what we've been up to...

One of our neighbors behind us has a little girl that is in Miles' class at daycare.  Her name is Cambry.  Miles is thrilled to be Cambry's neighbor.  Last night he stood on our back deck and yelled her name at the top of his lungs.  It was cute, but I finally had to stop him before he really annoyed the neighbors.  Tonight we brought his red car over to the new house.  He hopped in right away and drove to Cambry's.  I took this picture from our deck & that is Cambry's house...

We have been steadily working on the house since we closed on April 4th.  It has amazed me how much work a move in ready house needed to make it our own.  Thankfully we've been able to do a little at a time, and we've had lots of help.  Friday is our official moving day.  There is a lot of work to do before Friday, but it's all about to pay off!!

The Rodeo

The Rodeo in Martin is a big deal.  Our UTM Rodeo team is nationally ranked.  It's a fun week that we look forward to.  Miles learned about rodeo things at school & Thursday was dress up day.  We don't have many cowboy things in our house, so he wore his Woody hat & holster with his Nikes :)

We ran into some friends as we were trying to find seats, which made it more fun for all three of us...

Miles liked everything except the goat tying.  He kept saying that they were "hurting those babies" b/c the goats were really small.  I told him that cowboys & cowgirls love animals & they would never hurt them.  He wasn't buying that.  He said, "They are hurting them, they are lassoing them!"

The quality of this picture was terrible, so I made it black & white in an attempt to salvage it.  It's just too cute.  Miles & Marissa...

I really like the rodeo.  Darrin tolerates it.

I love living in a small town where you know everyone & can randomly run into people at the rodeo & hang out with them for the night.  Brook is a church friend & Jennifer is a UTM friend...

Brook scored points with everyone when she bought a couple snow cones & tons of spoons...

As we were walking out, we ran into the volleyball girls.  Miles & Chelsea...

The girls were amazed by the rodeo since they aren't from these parts :)

Miles has been wanting a rope since last year's rodeo.  We actually left the rodeo last year & drove Walmart to try to find a lasso.  They didn't have any so we ended up buying him some string, which seemed to satisfy him.  We finally bought him a real rope this year.  He was a happy little boy.

Weekend Wrap Up

My weekend consisted of painting.  Darrin had a tournament at Ole Miss, so he was gone all day on Saturday.  My mom came up to help work on the house.  She and I tend to work the same, which is nonstop until it's done.  We painted all day Saturday and all afternoon today, and I think we only sat down once.  I am exhausted and I know she is too.  As I was driving back to the rental when we were finished, I felt so bad that I had a 5 minute drive while she had an almost 3 hour drive.  Thank you, Mom!

We had a little help from Miles...

....but this is more realistic...

He explored all day outside yesterday.  It was so cute to see him check out our new digs.  I think he's going to love it.  More to come on the painting.  Right now, I need to take care of this house, which has been neglected all weekend.

My First & Last 5k

I've been wanting to do a 5k for a while but just haven't done it.  When my friend, Carrie, text me about a Glo Run, I was on it.  It sounded like fun and I really wanted to see if I could do it or not.  I text back immediately and told her I was in.

Tonight was the night.  I haven't run in a week and a half and I never run outside.  Not exactly what you call prepared.  I can run a long time on a treadmill b/c the pace is set for me.  Something about outside makes it so hard for me to run.  I really didn't know what to expect.

All my church friends...love this group...

Christa, Carrie & I decided to start the race together and then just do our own thing as needed.  I'm sure they were so happy that I picked up some glow accessories for all of us.  Carrie may forget to invite me next year...

I was telling the girls before the race that this was going to be my first & last 5k.  Mallory informed me that this was only the start of a new addiction. Mallory & her cute kiddos...

Carrie & Kayla getting their jams ready...

At the starting line...

I finished in just over 35 minutes.  I had to walk several times.  Christa & Carrie quickly left me in the dust. After the race with Carrie...

Sarah was so sweet to run with me for probably the first mile...

I had to inform Mallory after the race that she was very wrong.  5ks will definitely not be an addiction.  Good times with the girls, but been there, done that.
